It is very easy to add the Subsilver2 theme. Please add it. Thanks.
It should be extremely easy, when I had a test of phpBB 3 on my server installed it was installed by default, please enable it. Thank you.

So how do you edit your profile and change passwords? You trashed my old password and the assigned new one is impossible to remember so I would like to edit.

You would be able to change your password by going to the User Control panel, which is near the top of the page on the left.

It should be remembered that no one here is trying to be hostile, etc. -- its a freakin internet forum about old macs, its not the end of the world. Many of just simply prefer the older theme on a site we view many times a day! :beige:

Yes. I don't want to be hostile. I just want the normal theme back. I know it can be done, so I would appreciate it greatly. Thanks.

AHHH! CHANGE!! Change is evils and we fears it!!

No, I'm liking this theme more and more as I use it. Aesthetically I think it's an improvement. (10.3.9, FF2) I too thanks and congratulate Tom on the successful (technically at least :p ) transition.

However, compatibility with older browsers and older machines is a serious issue, and IMHO one that ought to be addressed. Whatever "90%" of us are using, blocking 10% or whatever is not acceptable - you know, considering this the 68kMLA and all. ::) A text-only theme would be great for the really retro amongst us, if possible.

> :( I'm on the wrong side of the post!
  Speaking of which, does anyone feel like making a Sad Mac smilie?

It doesn't seem to render properly in older Mac browsers such as iCab
Interesting: MultiFinder says otherwise.

Yes please.

emphasis on the content of the post.
Hear hear! Content before personalities! We are all comrades in the fight! Rah!

There's no hierarchy
Comrades, I tells ya!! ;) (Oooh, I like that the smilie appears at the cursor rather than the end of the post - much more sensible)

No srsly, what's a heirarchy?

Ew.

I don't exactly have anything against the new phpBB3 theme, but more about how it compares to what was used previsouly. I would much prefer to have a theme similar to the old one, but as has been mentioned, a System 7 type theme would be much more appropriate.

I know moving the poster details to the left hand side is possible because it has been done on http://amibay.com/.

I think it is much better having such information at the left, because it is easier to find out who wrote something, before it is read. It is usually important to know who wrote a post.

If we do not get a new 'older' type theme, could the colours at least be modified on this one? Having everything blue is a little bit boring, especially when I am reading the forum in a room which has blue carpet, blue walls and a blue mousemat :p

The new logo is good, but the apple logo should have a bit more colour.

I agree that this default theme is a bit icky, but that may well be down to personal taste rather than functionality. It would be nice to have a bare-ass simple theme... My only real niggle so far is that external links no longer open in a new tab/window.

Edit: I notice I now have a title under my avatar, so I'll quit with the complaints now and just revel in my new-found titularity.

Just an FYI: The forums seem to work great in MSIE 5 under OS 9.1. Ditto for iCab under the same. Great job guys!
Just an FYI Bunsen, that was sometime in 2007 :p

For the record, here's the new layout in MSIE 5 under OS 9.1, and iCab 3 under the same. In short, iCab 3 works okay, and MSIE 5 fails epically

One other thing that I've noticed that occurs here but didn't on the old layout is that links now open in the same window/tab as the forums. Any ideas on how to fix this? I loved that they opened in a new window.

I for one prefer having the user info on the right... as others have stated, it puts the emphasis on the content. Now we just need to put a 4-line limit on sigs.

I really don't know if allowing images in posts is a good thing... I suppose that can be turned off on an individual basis though?

I believe it kills the validity of the code, since the target="_blank" attribute isn't part of the XHTML standard – hence it wasn't included in phpBB3 by default. Because of that, it's kind of gone out of fashion in modern site coding. To be honest, I always hold command when clicking a link (to get Safari to open it in a new tab rather than in a new window) so I hadn't noticed the difference.

Now we just need to put a 4-line limit on sigs.
That doesn't seem to be an option – but I've disabled the use of images and smilies in signatures, since there's really no need for those.

Yep, you can turn it off in your User Control Panel > Board preferences > Edit display settings. Hence why I decided to leave it on by default.

Very cool and at the same time very very very un 68k....

I know, the world moves on but I will miss the old look and feel :( Also the contacts on the right is weird. I dont read that way.

I believe that's the idea! All the information in the right hand bar is extra information that typically just gets in the way of the actual content of the posts – well, aside from the poster's username! But that is listed on the left hand side at the top of the post as well.

I quit like it myself, and don't get what the big deal is. You visit a forum for the content, not to see the framing of the forum or the location of the user data and avatars. Give up the complaining and you'll get used to it eventually, everything changes, that's life, even the life of a forum dedicated to preserving a dead platform.

As per the upgrade, while I think it may have taken a bit too long too do, six months too long maybe, I'm happy it's finally done. phpbb2 was plagued with security issues and incredibly inefficient, full of bugs. While 3 is by no means perfect, I think it's just fine. Throwing it out because it doesn't work on a mac running classic is ridiculous, I don't think there are any members of this forum that don't have fairly constant access to a modern PC or Mac capable of running a new version of firefox or safari or even IE, all of which render phpbb3 just fine. Sure it's fun to type www.68kmla.org into netscape 2 on an old clunker of a quadra and watch it struggle to load and then, most commonly, crash out because you didn't allocate enough RAM or whatever, but even if it does load, do you really use it? Be honest, really- other than the occasional "I'm posting this from my PB520c!" or "I got my Centris 610 on the 'web!" post who uses old macs online, especially on this forum, regularly?

Maybe it helps for the atmosphere of browsing the site, but hey, just look at the postcounts for the various subforums, the vast majority of them are located in the lounge, and the vaaaaast majority of those have nothing to do with 68k macs.
