Weird adb problems?

I have a Macintosh LC III that I’m using an AppleDesign keyboard on along with the 1987 adb mouse. Sometimes, keys just don’t work on the keyboard, but when I unplug it and plug it back in, suddenly the mouse is slower than it was and the keyboard works fine. What’s going on with it? I’m running a hacked version of OS 8.1 on the LC III and haven’t had problems until yesterday

A few things:

1. Uncertain about why that would be with the keyboard.

2. That is normal for the mouse: it is reset to "tablet" speed whenever you disconnect and reconnect it.

3. DON'T do that regularly: you will eventually fry your ADB port, possibly bust a fuse and have to repair the thing.

Understandable. I might take a look at my adb keyboard

There are one or two ADB Reset utilities available. Until you solve the underlying problem, that would likely save you from needing to unplug and plug.
