I was given six Power Mac G5s from a local sinclair/abc affiliate station. The cases are in good shape but the person who had them for many years had them stored in non-climate controlled storage for years. They are a bit dirty. Some have video cards, some dont. Some have SNS Ellipse fibre channel cards and some dont.

Problem is... I dont know what to do with them. I was buying a PM 8500 from this guy and he told me he had them but I didn't want them. He called me like a year later and said I could have them or he was going to throw them away. So I went and picked them up. My love for macs is the beige era. They've been in my living room for about a year now and they need to go. I hate to strip and scrap the aluminum if someone wants them. I haven't tested them at all.

Anyone have any advice on what to do with them (besides make three benches out of them)? Does anyone want them or any of the internals? Will ship the guts out but not the cases (unless you provide shipping materials). I dont mind packing and taking them to UPS or Fedex or whoever. If you come to me (Pensacola) you can have them free. Here are some pictures. If you want more detailed pictures, let me know of what specifically.UNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_5ed2.jpgUNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_5ed3.jpgUNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_5ed7.jpgUNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_5ed8.jpgUNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_5ed5.jpgUNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_5ed4.jpgUNADJUSTEDNONRAW_thumb_5ed6.jpg

"If you come to me you can have them free" — what city are you in? I apologize if I missed somewhere I can see that. Thank you.

What model(s) are they? If you pop the side panel off it should have them on a label on the bottom of the inside, just under the plastic baffle

This may get more exposure in the trading post section of the forum.

You're doing the right thing - giving them away is the best way to get rid of them. G5s are not very popular for various reasons. I won't go into them because I don't want to hijack the thread with my opinions about these machines.

Good luck with finding someone who wants them.

A guy on CL just messaged me local wanting to come get them and he said that he fixes up old computers and donates them. I told him no because these arent computers the average joe can use. Need a home with a more specialized user, so yeah Im trying to get them in to the hands of someone that need them.

If a mod wants to move this to Trading Post, please do.

By my research, it seems that both the Single and DP 1.8 machines are mid 2003 models with PCI-X slots, and all the DP 2.0 machines are early 2005 models with PCI slots.

G5s are HEAVY beasts in their complete state, so it seems ideal to keep them intact (or at least as intact as they are currently) and trade them locally. EveryMac.com lists the stock G5 systems as weighing over 44 pounds, so very expensive to ship them intact, let alone the high chance of damage being caused while en route.

Unfortunately, you are way too far away for me to help take them off your hands, but if you DO end up parting them out, I would likely be interested in a few pieces, should it come to that.

I'd second. I have a near-flawless G5 that was my dads, but one panel got a tiny dent in it.

44lbs isnt too bad. I do ecommerce and sell online so I get big shipping discounts over retail. Ground wouldnt be too bad. But thats not the problem, the problem is shipping materials. Findings ones that fit and are sturdy enough is going to be tough and to buy new ones will be expensive. The combined cost would be a pain in the ass.

AND on top of that, these were stored in non-climate controlled storage in Florida for years. They may not even work. And theyre not super clean because of that either. Pensacola is pretty small and ive had it listed on CL (dont do facebook so no marketplace) and only have got messages from two people. One says he finds old computers and fixes them up for people who need them and I explained to him these are pretty niche and wont be useable by the average joe and he understood. And then this other jerk off who keeps calling and leaving messages in broken incoherent sentences about finding Amiga OS enthusiasts online and getting these to them.

Because of the nature of how they were stored, Im starting to think I may should just strip and scrap the aluminum and sell the parts at a discount because of the unknown working condition of them all. So I dont know, if I'll try to find a friend to list them on FB and if that doesnt work I'll strip and sell. Thats the idea for now unless someone has any suggestions.

Are all G5 power supplies interchangeable? I have a dead unit sitting in my garage because of a dead PS (was free and local and using it for parts).
