Really? Plug in the brick and the computer immediately starts up is normal? My 3400 didn't do that. The only machine I had do that had damage from a leaked battery.

Huh, none of mine (5300, 1400, 3400,) do that.  I would say maybe a bad PRAM battery, but some of mine don't keep the time when off, so I would guess they have bad PRAM batteries, too...

I've got a crap ton of NuBus Architecture PPC PBs and Duos and if one of them failed to boot up normally when I plugged in the power adapter I'd be surprised enough to think something was wrong with it.

IIRC, the /117 can't use the later processor boards, only a G3 upgrade. If you found any 1400 with a stress crack free lid (hinge plate area) it's a big win for you.

Snagged a MacBook 4,1 (2GB RAM, 160GB Apple HD). Came with a Silm power adapter (with USB plug). Battery is charging, it is an aftermarket SCDA battery with 5 cycle count.

Installing Snow Leapard on the HD (must not have had a OS when I got it).

Good find! The 4,1 is a decent machine. Probably the best of that generation (or second best, if you include the 5,2).

Got bored and bid on a cheap 1.25Ghz Imac G4 17" (iLamp). Was advertised as needing a new OS, some scratches on the screen, sold for parts. Got it in today. The HD didn't show up so I stuck a 250GB IDE I had on the shelf and installed OSX 10.5. It is a 20" model and after some cleaning and removing old sticker residue (thanks to Goo-be-Gone) it looks pretty nice. Only 1GB shows up (have both a 1GB desktop DIMM and 1GB Laptop SIMM) so I hope I just need to replace the external DIMM since it is easier. The screen scratches are pretty minor and not visible when the screen is on.

Nope, was the internal one, swapped a DIMM from one of my G5 towers, 2GB now. Are G4 Imacs picky on DDR RAM?

I used to not like the iLamp but now I want one...hoping to find a 1GHz or higher 17 inch or 20 inch one for not too much.

This one cost me around $26 shipped, 2 others bid on it. They are HEAVY.

To be honest I wasn't sure it would arrive in one piece, and after opening the huge box it came in to find just a couple layers of bubblewrap and 70% air on the box I figured the only thing that saved it was the base was so heavy the shippers couldn't turn it upside down and trash it.

I never really liked the original SDR based G4 Imacs (a reseller had one ages ago as his main machine and I used it a bit). But since this is DDR, has a cooling fan, G wireless, can do 2GB of RAM and has a useful 1680x1050 screen I figured I would give it a shot. Having a few iMac G5's made me tolerate the all in one design more.

Mostly I get bored and want to try something different, and the price was cheap enough that if I didn't like it I could ditch it easy enough with no loss.

G4's are starting to cost a few bucks so they won't be getting any cheaper.

I found one at work in the recycle bin but I couldn't sneak it out. Looking up the model number and the EMC on EveryMac told me it was a 800MHz model so I wouldn't want it anyway.

I noticed people on eBay are charging crazy money for the things, yeah. Saw some going for $200 and they weren't even top of the line 20 inchers. I'm willing to compromise and get a 17" but I really do want DDR RAM, a 2GB RAM capacity, and the faster processors.

Everyone wants the top of the line models, but some of the lesser ones are worth messing with if the price is decent. You just need to keep and eye out and have cash ready (space to store all this crap helps).

A 17" G4 1Ghz that boots OS 9.x wouldn't be bad. PC133 512MB SODIMS have come down in price lately.

Yeah, the 1GHz that isn't DDR would be acceptable too. I just don't want an iMac G4 that's slower than my Quicksilver.

My Quicksilver's weird, the buyer sprung for the top of the line optical drive, 512MB RAM, and a SCSI card but then only got the second best CPU and graphics card.

Good score on the iLamp, I picked up a 17" 1GHz  one a few months back from the thrift store for $20.  Very dirty and scratched up but the magic eraser made it look pretty nice.  I wish it would boot OS 9 but for the price I can't complain - I always kinda wanted one, I wouldn't have minded even one of the low end models.

I have a mutt model, a 17" panel with the 15" USB 2.0 base. Works well enough for what I use it for.

I had a 17" that I bought new and later sold when the display started to have issues.  Every so often it would boot up and the screen would be red-tone (it was a common issue at the time).  I would smack it on the side of the base and it would fix the issue and be fine for a while.  I passed it onto some guy that thought he could fix it.  They were heavy, I can't imagine carrying around one of the 20" models
