Unimplemented pads on the DuoDock II MLB?

NIGHT STALKER
I was looking at my shot of the Dock II MLB this morning and five unimplemented IC pads jumped off the board & bit me on the . . .

The four most interesting are for 28 pin surface mount chips that look for all the world to be for the same VRAM IC's used in the MiniDock!

Haven't got time to go thru the DevNotes today, but I was wondering . . .

. . . maybe we can increase the amount of VRAM on the DuoDock II? 8-o

If you're interested in tracking this down, compare the block diagrams in the DevNotes of the PB1400 especially, and the other members of the NuBus Architecture PowerBook Family to the block diagram of the 2300c.

One of my favorite fellow DuoMaulers successfully replaced the Video Controller IC on one of his toys with a LATER Version of that IC from another NuBus Architecture PowerBook. This leads me to believe that we MIGHT be able to pump more & better pixels outta the DuoDock II . . .

. . . than Apple ever intended! }:)

Any takers?

Guess not? Well take a gander at the piccies and decide if it's worth looking into:

Great to see you getting back to your Duo mauling^C^C^C^C improving ways jt.

Would it perhaps be more relevant to compare the unimplemented pads to the implemented VRAM in the DDII?

Nope, different pincount, but that doesn't mean they didn't leave room for "more" or "different" VRAM in case the newer ICs weren't shipping in time, or in enough quantity/correct price point, by the time the DDII hit production.

What might be more relevant would be to check the Video Controller IC on the DDII against machines with the same Controller and maybe higher limits of addressable VRAM?

IIRC, that might have been DuoMauler's point in replacing the 2300c's VidChip with a later one . . . or not! [;)] ]'>
