Trying to locate manuals for my Q700 (not easy...d'oh!)

Looking to get my (Iicx - converted a ways back on the upgrade deal) Quadra 700 going again (should be working, once I dust/vacuum it out), and there is one thing I'd like to have, but incredibly difficult to find: the User Guide/Manual that came with it. For my Apple IIe or IIgs's, I can find all kinds of manuals, docs, etc., but for whatever reason, nobody seems to have any 68K Mac manuals/user guides, not even in PDF format.

I've done multiple searches with variations on the words, but the only thing (barely) close that I have found is the Apple repair manuals (as if the Q700 was that hard to take apart?).

I may have to resort to setting up an eBay search for the silly thing and tell it to notify me in whatever decade that one turns up. Anyone here have knowledge of a reliable source for either a decent physical  user guide/manual, or a good readable PDF version? Even the Internet Archive doesn't have them (or if they do, their search engine has it cross-referenced with strange combo of terms).

I have more success finding OS/System books (and have a few of them, plus some of the System disks/CD or two) than finding the UG/manual. Any assistance in helping to track those illusive pages down will be greatly appreciated.

Hey Jim, welcome aboard!

The closest I can think of off hand is this (pdf) from the Vintage Apple Books page. (I also personally give a shout out to 1993's "Everything you wanted to know[...]" as being a book I perused an awful lot as a child.

In the early '90s, Apple generally wrote one manual and shipped it with all of their desktop computers, this is 1993's edition, but not a whole lot changed in the hardware between 1990/1991 and 1993, so from a functional perspective it should apply, even if there was a different documentation set with the Q700.

Anecdotally, for the Macintosh LC520 (my personal site), there was a manual referred generically to "Macintosh User's Guide" which I believe to be the same book I linked. I have my copy somewhere in my storage locker most likely. That was also 1993 though.

Does anybody else know off hand if the Quadras 700 and 900 had their own guide(s) or if this book is essentially what it looked like at those machine's introductions?

That's strange, I couldn't find the Q700 or any of its documentation listed on gamba. All I have are the ServiceSource and DevNote.

The person I bought my quadra 700 from has the manuals but can't find them at the moment. Will post back when found and I get them!

This is what came with a quadra (Dutch): Macintosh User Manual and Quadra 700 Read Me First.

That makes sense, by the time the Q700 was released "Macintosh" had become a pretty generic catchall and applicable to operation of all models, compact or standalone. The "Read me firsts" would handle product differentiation well enough.

Nice original feets, BTW!

Hi, all, and thanks for all the answers so quickly!

admin (Cory5412) - thanks for that 'generic' UG, and I suspect that may be almost all I will find close to what I was hoping for (but not locating...).

Gadget - thank you for that kind offer - it's the one piece of Q700 documentation that I _have_ so far (okay, two, now that Cory gave me the link to the generic UG... ;)

Maybe I have just forgotten the Q700 UG for precisely the reason that the 'User Guide' that Cory linked to, was about all that I saw back then. Another reason may be that (IIRC) my Q700 came about as the upgrade of case and contents from my Iicx that I had before it. (Side story - I won that Iicx and a 17 inch Trinitron monitor from the Irwin Tape Drive company. Came in by truck, because the monitor came on a mini-pallet - heavy dude, it was!).

But back to my quest, I will keep checking back here (is there a way to turn on notifications when someone posts a response, so I get an email notice?). [Ah, found it!]

Johnnya 101, post here if your guy does get the manuals and other stuff to you. Thanks!

and Quadra, what does "Aan de slag" translate to in English? Hmm, guess I'll go check Google Translate or such...

It does seem ironic that the only documentation that we all can find online now is the one that Apple worked so hard to keep from us way back then... :-^

Will check back in - and if I find anything, I will post it here in case someone else comes looking for it.

I dare say it means Getting Started.  That picture above will be all that it came with, no specific UG.

Will check my boxed Q700 when I get the chance.

I have the accessories/manuals box from a UK Quadra 700 - I'll post a photo as soon as I get a chance

Here you go.

The "Accessory Kit" box these are in contains a bunch of other things like feet and other accessories but these are probably the most relevant items for you. The Dutch one above is probably more accurate but also appears to a slightly later version.

It's labelled "Mac. Quadra 700 V7.0.1" on a barcoded label on the outside of the box.

Yes, Aan De Slag means Getting Started.

It contains some general info about the hardware, connecting and installing the system software.

The label on the box says "Quadra 700 7.0.1 7up"
