ehh.... need to figure out what smoked. cannot see anything. Checked all the electrolytics for high ESR, they are all good, but that doesnt change the age of them, they probably need replaced anyway....

What smoked is not always an indication of what is failing, only what heated up as a result of some cascading failure, most likely elsewhere. The symptoms you described have directed the problem to a few components mentioned above. Those should be checked with a multimeter using Tom Lee's guide if you do not already have it or Pina's book.

On closer inspection, my lighted magnifier reviled that L7 has magic smoke damage as its discolored and has a spot in the center of the component, but still has continuity.
