StyleWriter EtherTalk Adapter Uses

I was just wondering if there was anything interesting that can be done with the StyleWriter ethernet adapter things?

I have one, but I don't have a StyleWriter.

Can they be used with anything else? Say an ImageWriter or LaserWriter? Or Desktop?

It looks pretty much identical to a Farallon EtherMac iPrint LT, but it's white and Apple branded (presumably it also has a Din-8 on the end not an RJ11 jack?) - The Farallon box is just a Localtalk to EtherTalk bridge, and therefore supports connecting to a LocalTalk network, despite being branded for printers.

I'd try connecting it to your Mac and seeing if it bridges the networks. From memory these can't pass TCP/IP, so you need something on the Ethernet side to to TCP/IP to AppleTalk/EtherTalk bridging to make that work on the LocalTalk side.

Edit: Actually it looks like it's a clone of the Farallon EtherMac iPrint SL... https://indexarticles.com/business/...onnectivity-solution-for-serial-stylewriters/

I think I remember they're based on the other Farallon part - the serial one that isn't branded "LT".

Edit : the other was branded "SL".

I use an Asante Micro Print (or something like that), to connect the Macs to the home network.
It looks to be a similar device than yours...

Yeah that one's based on the SL and unfortunately doesn't know how to speak LocalTalk. On the other hand it can interface with a serial printer that doesn't speak LocalTalk which was handy when it was made (not so much now).
