ok, this is a long story.

i was given for free a 7600/132 a couple of weeks ago, in the package was a Crescendo G3.

i get also a crescendo G4 400 Mhz for free a long time ago,but not having anything to use with, was packed in a closet.

When i get the 7600, i removed the G3 and try the G4 instead... but the 7600 never worked (no chime, no nothing) whatever i tried (the cuda switch was pressed and the G4 enabler was present of course)

I had a look at the Sonnet card, but nothing wrong was found, anyway i put the card in the sink and give it a good wash, let it dry... put everything back together with a fresh coat of thermal grease, and last but not least use the soldering iron to refresh some welds.

Today i had a day off, and some time to spare, so out the 7600 and the G4.

Booted the 7600 with the G3 to be sure everything was ok...but it refused to boot and get a flashing ? :(

Removed the connector from the HD and put it back again, and this time get a boot :)

Removed the G3, and put the G4 in... and get the chime :b&w: :b&w: , but also get the flashing ? }:)

So apparently a faulty HD, whatever i tried the HD refused to boot properly this time.

Out the G4, in the G3, same result.

In despair i removed the screws from the cover of the HD and have a look at it, nothing stuck :disapprove:

But it back together and tried another time, no boot.

So tried to get another HD but all the Mac Os 9 discs i have are for Imacs, and they won't let me do a fresh install in the PM.

Ok, i put the faulty HD back and give it a last try...and it booted right away !!!!

Started again with a spare HD connected too and booted again, so i made a copy of my HD just in case, including all required files.

Out the G3 and in the G4, the PM booted to Mac Os9 and the Sonnet enabler showed the G4 now working.

So time to see if everything is working.

the PM is quicker, but the G3 was 350 Mhz and the G4 is 400 Mhz, so don't make a bit difference anyway.

Don't know what to think about all this, is the HD faulty in the end and what get the G4 running again, don't know really.

next step is to try a mac OS X install
