Source for G4 processor upgrade?

Hello, I scored a 400Mhz sawtooth and don't know too much about this machine. it has OSX 10.2 installed. I have found CPU upgrades that will take it up to 1.6 Ghz, but they cost an arm and a leg. I have maxed out memory but if I can find a CPU upgrade that would be great.

Any recommendations on what the best CPU upgrade is or where to find it at a reasonable cost?

Meanwhile, the search continues....

OWC is about the only place that has a ready supply of them these days *new*, but there are many second-hand ones on eBay (notably a Hong Kong seller, quite cheap)

A cheap DP upgrade would be a Dual G4-500 just make sure you get the correct heatsink and your G4 system is ver 7 to be able to run dual CPU's. I have one setup like that and just got another in today (ebay $20 including shipping just snagged it because I noticed the dual processor heatsink).

If you want a decent G4 system a MDD is cheaper then just a fast CPU for a Sawtooth (or get a Quicksilver).

I agree with Unknown_K. An MDD could be had used for around the same price, has a significantly faster FSB and more options.

This doesn't mean the Sawtooth is no good, but the G4 upgrades aren't cheap. My Sawtooth is doing duty as a fileserver, a task which it performs very well with adequate RAM on the original CPU. I've thought about an upgraded CPU card, but it's not going to attain its full potential in those units. At least it's not a Yikes! :)

Well I already have the G4 and am just looking to upgrade it only if I can find parts cheap. I'll keep an eye out.
