Sonnet Tempo SATA in a 9600

Hey,

I recently acquired a brand-new Sonnet Tempo SATA card, and am trying to get it to run under Tiger on my 9600/Sonnet Crescendo G4. The problem is that while it works like a dream under OS9, if I try to write to it under Tiger, the system completely freezes (as in no mouse movement). Is there a solution? I was originally going to just leave it under 9 and use Tiger from the original SCSI disk, but recently it gave up the ghost.

Do you have OSX drivers for that card? PCI PPC machines have issues with storage controllers on cards and some might need to be in specific slots on 6 slot systems (the bus was split into 2 on the 9500/9600).

My only experience was with ATA/66 IDE controllers on PCI systems (have a few in use).

Try also in the top PCI slot, IIRC this is the bus master slot. Also check Sonnet's website for any firmware updates.

pull any other pci cards that are nonessential- i've never seen a preference with the sonnet data card- i use it in 7.6.1- but i HAVE seen strange incompatibilities, like 2 in one system as well as the long radius video board set... one + the radius boards is stable, and 2 with ANY other cards i own- from mpeg2 encoders to orangepc cards work fine, but just not 2 with that dang radius card- i'd make sure to strip down to basic video and data before going further. Another possibility- do you have a mach5 or original 9600? sonnet's drivers in general have VERY iffy support for mach5- they have a new OF and rom version that causes many problems- G4 upgrades are a good example of sonnet items that are plagued by crippling mach5 bugs...

Byrd's suggestion did the trick; I'm now up and running with 10.4 on a 1TB hard drive. Now if only I could get OSX to recognize my Acard 6880M...

I returned the 6880 to the seller because it wasn't compatible with removable drives. Anyone know a good ATA card that can handle a DVD drive?

Get a SCSI-IDE adapter and put the DVD drive on the SCSI bus - it'll work fine. You generally don't buy a RAID card for DVD drives.

Does the Sonnet not support SATA DVD drives?
