SE/30 + SCSI cdrom questions

Hello there,

New to the Macintosh world and to the forum I apologize for questions sometime very basic...

I works a lot on old computers but mainly 8 bits (Apple IIe, CPC6128, Junior Computer, Microbox II, etc...) and also PC (286 and 386sx only).

Few months ago, from my uncle house, I salvaged materials from scrap including
- a SE/30 with Asante ethernet but without keyboard,
- a Mac Plus,
- an external scsi hardisk,
- an external scsi cdrom/burner Yamaha CRW6416SX,
- an external iomega 100 mb zip drive,
- adb mouses,
- a lot of cables (scsi and so on),
- a lot of adaptors, etc...

The Mac Plus boards was heavily damaged by acid leakage from the battery and need hard works before restart. I hope in some weeks...

The SE/30 has been fully cleaned (including the floppy, thanks to Youtube). I found a keyboard then format and install OS 7.1 FR ( they refuse to boot on the original system due to some problems with a corrupted "ram doubler" software, even starting with shift dont work). Then everything look good and works well. I got access to my internal raspberry ftp server for easy software transfer.

No recap at this moment because close look to the boards do not show anything abnormal.

The external hard disk works directly when connected to the SE/30 and I found even old datas on it... I will keep it on the side for using with the Mac Plus.

I try to connect the external cdrom (id 3, terminator on) with a K3B burned data cdrom inside but nothing appeared on the computer.
Of course I am unsure of the hardware so there could be a problem on this side.

But should I install some kind of driver to basically read cdrom ? I assume, like for PC, something must also be installed to burn cdrom ?

It would be great if you point me the good direction to get this cdrom drive alive.

Regards.
Philippe

Yes, you’ll need a CDROM driver. I don’t know if it supports this model, but I’d start with the patched Apple CD-ROM Extension:

https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/apple-cd-rom-extension-patched

Place this in the Extensions folder inside the System Folder and reboot with the drive connected and powered on.

My recollection is that there are other extensions that are sometimes needed, such as for reading non-Mac formatted or hybrid CD-ROMs. You might try installing this package first, and then install the patched CD-ROM extension (the CD-ROM extension installed by this package only supports Apple branded CD-ROMs):

Thanks.

I try to send the softwares to the SE/30 via ftp (I have try binary and auto mode). I use Fetch 2.1.2.

Transferring works well but everything I transmit by this way look corrupted to Stuffit !

I have to solve that first but dont know how ?
