Couple of quick questions / errors on my SE/30 running Sytem 6.0.8.
1) Is there anyway to get Macintalk working on this machine? I really want to play Capn' Magneto and Strategic Conquest, both of which need Macintalk to sound their best.
I understand the SE/30 used a different sound hardware compared to older Macs, so the original hardware "hack" that is Macintalk doesn't work. However, some folks have reported success with Macintalk version 1.3 specifically. I've got *a* version of Macintalk, but it doesn't seem to do anything. I've also tried installing Macintalk 2 using the English TTS install package (from here: http://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/downloads) which is supposed to work under System 6, but there is no control panel entry, which leads me to question 2.
2) When I double click "Font DA manager" in my System 6 folder, I get "The application Font DA Handler is missing". I *thought* I had a complete system 6 installation, using the standard 2 discs, but perhaps not - and perhaps this is why my control panel doesn't behave as advertised with respect to the English TTS package?
3) And finally, the simple text app. When I open it, I get a bomb error "Unimplemented trap", and a "restart" button (which works).
Any thoughts much appreciated! Google-fu hasn't turned up much so far.
