SCSI2SD SD Card Extension

Hello!

I am trying to find a way to access the SD card socket on my SCSI2SD while it is mounted inside of my SE/30. I purchased a simple 48cm SD card extension cable to run out of the expansion slot, but it does not seem to work when connected to the SCSI2SD. The computer does not boot at all when the extension is installed, and it does not detect a drive.

I theorize that it stops functioning due to electromagnetic interference inside of the Macintosh and the lack of shielding on such a long, thin cable. (The extension works fine when connected to my modern iMac, but presumably, there is far less interference on modern machines -not to mention it isn't merely inches away from an electron gun.)

I am curious about how others have rigged up ways to access their SCSI2SD without opening up their machines. Is the 48cm cable I bought just too long? If you have any suggestions for a better way to do things, please let me know.

Thanks!

I have the same problem with two cables. One can be used in my 3D printer and there it works but not in my SCSI2SD. The other seems to be defect. I wanted to use it in an external SCSI case for using different SD-card with different OS.

And some more information: If I use the cable in my Windows PC it works. If I put it in my SCSI2SD 5.0 or the 5.1 (with an adapter) it does nothing. So the problem is definitively the SCSI2SD. Would be nice to have a cable that will work...

Next I will try to use my cable in a Raspberry Pi.

Possible you just got a bad cable. I use this (different, but also 48cm) cable in my SE/30 every day and it has worked for years. https://www.amazon.com/LANMU-Extension-Flexible-Monoprice-Raspberry/dp/B01D9JIUU0
I actually tried this exact same product previously but I returned it because I couldn't get it to work. I assumed that it was defective and bought some more from a different brand. I wonder why yours works and mine does not?

The product I am now using came with two extension cables. I just tried the other one in the package, and I observed the same results. It works with my modern computer but not with my SCSI2SD. As far as I can tell, all of the different extension cables available online are the same product, but with different branding and lengths. I wonder if there is a different supplier somewhere that sells a different product that is more reliable.

I could probably fabricate my own extender using these, some wire, and hot glue, but I am not sure how strong it would be without going through the effort of designing a PCB to attach things to securely. At the very least, I'd be able to twist the wires together for some shielding. Obviously, I'd prefer to avoid going this route if possible.

Just bumping this, has anyone else had success w/ a vintage mac, SCSI2SD, and an extension cable?

I have the one Crutch mentioned, and it works fine with modern hardware, but when using it with my SCSI2SD the LED on the scsi2sd it doesn't mount.

I thought maybe there was some additional power requirement when using the extension cable so I tried both molex power and USB but the same result.

I personally use this one

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YYSP5F5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Which works for me

But I'm sure the quality control on these isn't great, so your mileage may vary

I have the same issue. SCSI2SD 5.1. Have tried several different extension types/sources, none work. The scsi2sd activity light constantly flashes at power on and the system does not see a card. Tried recent scsi2sd firmware. It's a bummer because I'd really like to be able to swap cards.

I used a super cheap micro SD extension for years in my SE/30 from China I got off of ebay, no problems. I only took it out recently after I moved the computer and snapped the end off of the micro SD card.

Shoulda backed that card up.

What SCSI2SD versions are you all using? I'm using 5.2 and not having any luck with either a purchased extension cable or a self-made one. With only power provided, not hooked up to a computer, the LED on mine blinks erratically when the extension cable is plugged in, compared to just once when plugged in directly.

I really want to get the extension cable working as I designed a part that would slot into where the security chain would go on the back of my Classic II, so as to not have to drill holes in the chassis for SD card access, and I would hate for that to go to waste just because I worked on it before testing if the extension itself worked on the SCSI2SD...

Same situation here - and same Idea about putting the SDCard behind the Security Lock hole. Cannot get it to work either :(
