Longer MicroSD card extension for BlueSCSI

I'm needing an extension for my SD card reader. On my BlueSCSI that I can easily run out of a pizza box style case like on my LCIII. I have a Ethernet card in the PDS spot so I can't just run it out there but I'll sure with the thin ribbon cable I can make enough clearance somewhere. Problem is I'm only saying versions that are about 5 and 1/2 in Long and would like something a little longer for more flexibility. Have you guys found anything that meets that description?

I use these 60cm ones in my SE and SE/30; they’re a bit unnecessarily long, but they’re thin enough that I can sneak them out around the expansion opening even with a breakout board in place.

Normally I secure the card holder to the back of the case with a Velcro dot, but the extra length comes in handy to bring them out to somewhere more accessible if I’m swapping cards often.

@halkyardo Any idea if it'll fit through the lock slot?
It'd be a tight fit, but I think it probably would. I had the same thought, but I haven't tried it just because on the Compacts it would make it a pain to take the rear-case 'bucket' off. On other machines where the lock slot is in the same half of the case as the drive, that would be a great idea.

That's perfect! Thank you!!

I received the adapter like you posted and unfortunately it doesn't work well for me. I get constant write errors in the BlueSCSI log that go away when not using the adapter. Guess I'll have to find another method sadly

Oh no! That's unfortunate. Mine hasn't seemed to give any problems, but with the length of cable involved, it's not beyond the bounds of possibility that some cards simply don't like it. Sorry about that!

It's all good. Trial and error haha. I did find a thread on tinker different that seems to talk about how the BlueSCSI can be extremely picky about and MicroSD extenders so I'm still currently researching. I could have also done some hard to find damage on this one because the only place to route it out of my LCIII without it being an eye sore seems to be between the case opening and plate around the Ethernet jack on my PDS card. I can see some very very light crimping in that area as a result but it seems to lean more towards incompatibility. Maybe even the a variance in manufacturing being that it's a generic Chinese product.

I had the same problem with a similar adapter. Never figured out what the exact issue was.

I think I remember reading here or on another forum that some people had removed a resistor on this kind of adapter, which made things much more reliable. The problem is that in this case you'll lose the warranty...

I had a similar problem with a µSD extension. When I was trying to troubleshoot I read these SD / µSD extenders are extremely susceptible to interference. That makes sense when you think about the gauge and length of the wires in the ribbon cable. I put copper tape on both sides of the ribbon cable to shield it and my errors disappeared.

Running fast, noise-sensitive signals unshielded is never bound to work well - here's a visual representation of what happens (here with testing if my Clamshell was still alive by using the wrong LCD panel - I just needed to see something, anything). SD on a BlueSCSI probably runs at about 50MHz, which is far too fast to get away with over anything as long as an extender. Tack copper tape onto both sides, tape both sides together, maybe solder tape to the slot shield on the extender side (or just strip the adhesive a bit to ensure it has electrical contact. This forms a shield.
