I need an OS 9 New World ROM for use with sheepshaver.

My google-fu fails me ATM.

If you have the 4MB PCI NewWorld ROM, please e-mail it to me

thanks.

Oh and if I could get it soon that would be awesome.

I think coius might have what you're looking for. He offered some ROMs to me on his forum a while back. Maybe you might want to try asking him.

It's not that nobody has what you want.

It's that nobody here likes Cease & Decist letters.

What??! I do! I have hundreds of them!! Mostly from Elton John's lawyers!

As for that other thing, isn't it on the *bleeep* server? Oh...Wait...That's probably down. SHUT UP!

OMG.

It's stored in the system folder.

Fine.

/goes and pulls out 8500.

See?!?!

Right there.

It wasn't a warez request. It was a ROM request. It's useless without a host OS and whatnot.

Even if it were reverse engineered, I cannot think of any uses for it off the top of my head.

I highly doubt his steveness cares if I emulate 9 in Leopard so as I can Masters of Orion.

I downloaded the ROM from Apple, but alas am running Leopard, thus my need for sheepshaver in the first place.

I am going to attempt to extract the ROM from my install of Tiger w/ Classic Suport (i.e. I keep a copy of my OS 9 system folder handy. Created a partition, dropped it on and awaay we go!) later on tonight. I knew dual booting the G5 could come in handy some day.

Today is that day.

I've got a fair few of them. If we go by legalities and non-legalities:

Mac OS ROM Update 1.0 (Pre-Extracted, Works with SheepShaver) - 2 MB

Power Macintosh 6100-60 AV - 4 MB

Power Macintosh 7100-66 - 4 MB

Power Macintosh 7300 - 4 MB

Power Macintosh 7600 - 4 MB

Power Macintosh 8500 - 3 MB

Power Macintosh 9500 - 4 MB

Power Macintosh 9600 - 4 MB

Macintosh Performa 6300 - 4 MB

The only exception to the 4 MB is the 8500 ROM at 3 MB total. All of these are extracted from machines that I have had or either no longer have but have kept for archival purposes.

Also have an extensive collection of Apple ROMsets (Apple 1, Apple 2, Apple 3, Lisa) along with stacks of 68k ones.

If we were all angelic law abiding citizens, these roms would have died into computing history, nobody would run Mac OS 9 again via emulation because it would be "the wrong thing to do". Unfortunately we need to step on a few feet to preserve these, and so it shall be.

I could really use the one that works with sheepshaver.

I found one I think, it's just called PowerPC.ROM.

Sheepshaver comes up with the ? and ejects my CD's.

I did create a 1200MB Disk Image with it set to a hard disk, Mac OS Standard. I also tried using sheepshaver to create a hardfile.

The walkthrough on their website is not helpful.

Got sheepshaver running.

I found a much more thorough walkthrough at:

http://theappleblog.com/2006/07/01/classic-on-intel-macs-courtesy-of-sheepshaver/

I am up and running with OS 9.0 and very happy.

No classic in Leopard my butt...
Did you follow the instructions on Mac128.com for setting up SheepShaver? If they didn't work then I need to clarify them, though except for the pictures, it's the same steps as theappleblog.com, which is probably worth linking.

It's keeping me from upgrading...
I think that's Temetka's point, there's no reason not to upgrade now, OS 9 works just fine, though differently than Classic. However, I'm pretty sure Steve Jobs could care less that you have not joined the ranks of the spotted felines.

FWIW there's a package floating around out there called "Classic on Intel." It's a working install of Sheepsaver, packaged as a double-clickable OS X app, that automatically boots up and into OS 9.0.4 on a configuration with 256MB RAM. It's very handy - requires zero configuration and works perfectly on Intel Macs.

It's not on the HL server (AFAIK), but it's in some of those dark and out of the way corners folks might be familiar with.

Be aware it's a pretty decent-size download, about 36MB.

Yeah, I know about classic on intel.

There was a link for it over at MSJ, but it's a huge download as they tossed in the disk images and it's a slow download as well.

Mine is up an running. A bit crash happy, but running nonetheless. I want to be able to play some of the older games but anything that touches quickdraw seems to lock the OS, so I have some tinkering to do.

I tripped my friend out the other day when I booted up OS 9 inside OS X.

Now I have every OS on my PBG4.

OS X.5

MacOS 9.0.4

MacOS 7.5.3

Windows 2000

SuSE 9.3

Backtrack 2

Solaris 10

The PC OS's are care of VPC 7. The MacOS's are care of Apple Inc. and some clever open source developers.
