I have an old boat anchor of a monitor made by Radius that is 20" fixed frequency model with a Trinitron screen from Sony. You connect it using a bunch of BNC cables and it has only one resolution and refresh which my Q950 had no issues with.

Look at the back label and write down what the operating specs are.

For example:

https://web.archive.org/web/19991023092455/http://www.nashville.net/~griffin/monitors/Raste15.html

H Frequency : 60 KHz
V Frequency : 75 KHz
Sync Signal : Separate, Green
Input Connector 5 BNC
Resolution Maximum : 1024x768, 75 Hz

Multisync monitors allow multiple resolutions and will have ranges for allowed sync signals.
