Quick Question: would this work in a Quicksilver?

I missed that it was MDD! Thanks,. My understanding otherwise is that, for instance, a Quicksilver processor would work fine in an earlier AGP Graphics model, is that true?

Here is a better question: I have an AGP Graphics 400 MHz model. If I popped an 867 MHz G4 in there from a Quicksilver, would there be any advantage at all to actually buying a quicksilver with regards to system bus, etc....I can't really find one in my sources. Seeing as the processor cards are ~$20 on eBay, and a quicksilver itself is $100-150 with heavy shipping costs, would just getting the card make more sense?

One difference is that the Quicksilver has a faster bus speed so unless you solder/unsolder some resistors on ta Quicksilver processor card it’ll run at a lower speed than normal. A 867mhz processor in a AGP will run at 650mhz.

Also one of the mounting screws on the Quicksilver supplies 12v. On an AGP you’d have to run a wire over to supply that.

One of the pinned threads in this sub-forum talks about swapping CPUs:


A quicksilver CPU can be used in an AGP, but you need to move/remove the IDE connector for the optical drive, change the bus multiplier for the CPU to run on 100MHz bus, add a 12v wire to supply power, and figure out a heatsink that will fit. Here is an example of one:

The CPU runs at a multiple of the bus, so you can't set it exactly to 867, but you could run it at 850MHz, or 900, 950, etc.
