Powerport Gold software?

Hello,

I got a Global Village Communication PowerPort Gold, and I can't find the software for it.

Do you have the software? I want to get it running on a Powerbook 1400cs/166.

Thanks for reading.

Thanks for the link, but i read:

You must have any previous version of GlobalFax for PC Cards already installed. This updater will not install GlobalFax on its own.

It's the updater only, so I can't use it.

Now that you say, yes, I had a similar problem with a PowerPort pcmcia modem, but found the file after much trouble in the Global Village FTP site. You might try anonymous ftp at globalvillage.com. I forget what address it was that I used, but the software was all there. That would have been about a year ago. In fact, I used CyberDog on a Quadra 650 to access it. Worked a treat.

I managed to find the url, but cannot access it at present for some reason (I am trying this time from a G4 rather than a Quadra - maybe a 68040 using Cyberdog 2 is the real ticket. Ho ho.)

ftp://ftp.globalvillage.com/pub/software/mac/

This site is not down, as it asks for login details.

You may have better luck than me — or know some ftp tricks that I don't.

Sorry for the late reply.

I am trying to find the software again, but no luck. This is really hard to find.

But do I need the software? Or can I plug it in my PCMCIA slot and go on Internet?

I don't know what software I need to get...

Send me a PM with a note of your email address. I definitely have the files somewhere and will look them out for you.

You do need the software to use the card.

I GOT THE FILES! Thanks for helping, Beachycove (and everyone who wanted to help)! I am trying to get it on my PB1400. I'll edit this message with the status.

Good luck - let us know if you have browsing tips once you get up and running. I have found the WannaBe browser works well for just scanning textual info on sites with the 1400 - can deal with pages where IE graphics choke it on the 1400...

Is there anyone with an online archive who would like to host these Global Village PowerPort PCMCIA driver files for download? They were until recently freely available from Global Village or its heirs, so i shouldn't think that there would be any legal objection to hosting.

Try contacting Dan Palka (dpaanlka on here, although his profile says he hasn't visited in over a year,) the admin of System 7 Today. His site hosts a bunch of drivers on the Help Center section, so I'm sure he'd be up for hosting another.

I installed it, but it still doesn't work.

The extensions load, I have the control panel, I configurated it etc. etc.

Do I need a special modem?

Some thoughts:

1. Mine works fine with this software.

2. There was also a ROM update file included that you could try.

3. Alternatively, your pcmcia slot, card or card dongle might well be toast. The latter are a bit finicky.

Yes - it does appear on the desktop with the name Powerport Gold. If I double click on it, the software of Powerport appears. I should try the updater tomorrow or so. I hope that helps.
