Powermonster II Disk Formatter?

I just got my PM2 2.5 in today, and I'm looking to install on my 'new' PB180 this weekend. There is talk about a special version of the Disk Formatter- but I haven't seen where you can actually get it. Does anyone here have a link they can post me?

Also, suggestions for the best MacOS for a PB180? I was thinking 7.01 (since I have those Floppies).

Is the SuperBooter75 disk image from Gamba's site supposed to work on a Mac Portable with 4MB?

I'm in need of a disk formatter and I thought I'd try the patched SCHDSetup mentioned above, but it doesn't seem to work. The Mac boots from the floppy to Finder Substitute, but when I try to open apps either nothing happens or an error message is shown.

SCHDSetup: Spends some time loading, wristwatch pointer appears, floppy ticking away, then just returns to the shell.

AppDisk: "Sorry, an error occurred."

Rejuvenator: Bombs the system with a coprocessor required exception.

Note that the Mac is fine, it runs System 6 from the current HD perfectly.

Is this normal/expected? If so, any help locating FWB HD Toolkit or any other disk formatter utility would be greatly appreciated.

It may need a machine capable of 32-bit addressing or some such thing. The underlying code in the unofficial utility referenced dates from the Quadra era, and the hacked driver from the time of the PPC, so it might not work on something as old as a Portable.

Familiarize yourself with macgui.com (vault), where you should be able to find what you need, or give Lido a shot from here.

For Drive Setup 7.3.5 various results are reported with a PB 180. The operability might be related to the size of the memory card in use. With CF PowerMonster Mk. I the HDT 2.0 formatter works well for a 1 GB CF card of recent make. Please be so kind and leave your CF PowerMonster Mk. II results in our Wiki: Flash drive test results.

Lido worked perfectly, thanks Beachycove! In fact, that's become my go-to formatter tool. I've used it on a few computers, from a Mac Portable (6.0. 8) up to a PowerBook 5300 (7.5.5) and it's great.

Register: I can't seem to be able to log in to the Wiki, but I'm using a Stratos CF PowerMonster Mk II in the PB 170 with a 2GB Transcend 133x CF card, formatted with Lido, under 7.5.5.

I also have another PowerMonster in a generic external SCSI 2.5" enclosure with a 2GB Transcend card of the same type, and I've used it to lug data between my Macs: it worked on everything I threw at it, which so far includes:

- Color Classic

- Mac Portable

- Powerbook 170

- Powerbook 5300

An AztecMonster (with another Transcend card of the same type) is now the internal HD of a Color Classic, also formatted with Lido. (After booting off the above external device.) Here the only tricky part was fastening the AztecMonster to the Color Classic's HD sled as the AztecMonster expects smaller, shorter, more modern drive screws than the screw-wise seemingly proprietary older HD used. I just glued the SCSI device to the sled semi-permanently with four dollops of silicone sealant. Seems great so far.
