PowerBook G4 Titanium

Picked up a cosmetically immaculate 400MHz Titanium PowerBook G4 last week, wasn't powering on and needed CD drive replacement.

Had a spare 500MHz one at home, working but with a smashed screen - made one out of the two.

New specs are 500MHz, 768MB RAM, 20 GB HD, DVD-ROM, Airport - not bad for a slight detour on the way home from work and a couple of hours swapping bits!!!

Battery seems to last 15 minutes though... Not unexpected...

I Might get a TiBook and some other Laptops from a family friends soon. They are very nice looking Machines! Nice conquest! How did you get it?

They are nice machines! I remember when they were new I always thought they were the coolest. Such a jump from the G3 PowerBooks (even though I like them and they were great machines too).

To be honest I traded it (and a pile of iBook G3's) for a G4 dual 500 tower I had hanging around :)

Now the PowerBook is up and running, I'll see if I can get some of the iBooks running too, all have various issues.

I remember the very first time I saw one "in da flesh" in late 2002 - nearly two years after they were released. It was a brand new TiBook 800, and I remember thinking what an amazing machine it was. :O

Sounds like a great conquest, and it's always fun to be able to combine two machines into one.

I always liked the way tibooks looked, but they way they were built leaves a lot to be desired in a mobile computer that moves around... ever.

As new: coolest machines on the entire planet. So incredibly skinny for such a powerful and durable computer.

In 2006: worst machines on the entire planet. How can a laptop vendor get away with such weak hinges and how can one drop of the machine kill the display, inside a padded case at that.
