Powerbook 2400c problems

Hi all,

So after the problems with my last 2400c, I bought another one. To recap, the first one turns on fine, but will not spin up an HD. I have taken it apart completely and tried two HDs, both of which work fine in an external USB case and a Powerbook 5300.

I bought another one, which spins up its HD, but only shows the grey raster on boot. No pointer, no startup activity, just the grey raster. I haven't taken this machine apart yet.

Neither one will respond to a PRAM reset, either. I'm just not too sure what to do with these machines. I'd like to get a working 2400 out of the two of them...

Thanks,

Kyle-

I can only commiserate with you on this one. Got a 2400 a couple of months back and it simply refuses to play ball. Got it working a couple of times by unplugging the PSU, removing the battery (totally removed the PRAM battery) and letting it sit overnight with no power whatsover. Then reset the PRAM battery and it might work :(

I've come into contact with two 2400c, and the only way that made them 100% reliable was to replace a few SMT fuses on the motherboard. If you check the 2400c mailing list it will tell you where, how and why to test them.

Thankfully the 2400c I kept is rock solid. I just scored on eBay a replacment LCD panel for $1, quite a score - my current screen has a large scratch on it.
