Plus with HDD

Looks like a 128/512k upgraded to a plus, then (clumsily) fitted with an internal hard drive.  Pretty ugly, but I understand the impulse from somebody back in 1987 or whenever.  I'd be interested to see the inside.

You have to admire the simple expediency of chopping a hole in the case to pass the SCSI connector through

Yep; this was clearly just a tool for someone, not a statement or conspicuous consumption.

Also smart that they drilled extra ventilation holes.  I wonder if they also installed a fan in there, or upgraded the power supply.

The Macintosh has engravings to mark that it once was property of the University of Amsterdam. I guess they wanted to upgrade their systems without completely replacing them? It's a really ugly hack though, I didn't see that hole earlier when I came across the ad myself, now that it is mentioned, ugh, that's a turn off. I'll stick with my SE for now  :beige:

Not only is it an upgraded 128K/512K, they chopped out a new piece of the case just to accommodate the ports! Check out the port signs above them!!

The horror doesn't end with that picture. First, the holes in the side:

Looks like they went Swiss cheese on that!

Keyboard is in sad shape, and the entire bundle is just filthy:

Both the keyboard and Macintosh are engraved as being property of the psychology lab of the University of Amsterdam, adding more defacement to this Mac:

In such a sad shape, this Mac is ripe for parts or a new case.

Yeah keyboard is salvageable, if you manage to get hold of a new "*" key, and it needs new switch as well... And don't you think that mouse connector looks weird with those black screws? Definitely NOT original!

Back of the machine is completely useless though. BUT if one of you guys ends up buying this thing, I have an extra platinum Plus back end lying around... I'm sure someone could hack something around that scsi connector.

Actually, it doesn't look that bad. Most of the work has been done by the previous owner who was probably an ape [insert Top Gear reference here], but still, could be worse!

If you remove the original scsi connector on the back, get one of those guys with the exposed right angle pins instead, and solder one pin at a time the scsi ribbon to the logic board, it should turn out great!

Next thing would be to relocate (and possibly replace the fan with a better and quieter one. I'm thinking Noctua) to the top of the case (like on those Hyperdrives) and boom you're done.

That little sad looking Mac could be awesome! Actually, do you know what, I'll contact the seller and make him an offer myself. You're probably thinking I'm drunk right now, but I'm not!! I'm being serious. The Plus ED is missing from my collection too, and it would make it a little bit more special.

Wish me luck. Ain't gonna give him much but hey, who would pay top dollar for such an atrocity?

PS: How did you get hold of those pictures HAL? Is it yours??  :O

No it's not mine but I've dealt with the seller in the past. I pointed him to this forum and now he feeds me all the information. In fact he just mailed me that he has been approached by the guy that did the modifications.

My eyes recovered and now that I see the rest of the pictures I LOVE IT! UVA's Pshrink Department must have had an inma  .  .  . erm  .  .  .   patient doing their hardware upgrades. I wouldn't change a thing! [:D] ]'>

WoW. Big spender. An offer of 10 euro! Do you expect the seller to take that seriously? Are you living in The Netherlands? Or do you expect the seller to ship it to the States? He's now thinking of donating it to the Apple Museum in The Netherlands by the way.

My bad, I was thinking backwoods West Virginia anyway. Where's U.v.A? Amsterdam?

I'm still loving it, it's got heart, miles and miles of heart. Even with the HDD pumping out BTUs in there, that's gotta be the best ventilated Compact Mac this short of a SystemSaver assisted wimp.

Good on ya!

UvA is Amsterdam. But now it's in Groningen. Just look it up. It's still a few kilometres from West Virginia.
