Pismo Capsure

Hey ya'll

I thought I'd share my latest little project.

I have a large video collection which is taking up space!

Solution?

A powerbook Pismo connected via FireWire to an external WD HDD with a capsure PCMCIA zoomed video card capturing at 720x576 at 25 FPS!

Once the video is converted the external drive gets hooked up to my intel mac and then the files are over to idvd.

Its going to be a long and arduous process digitsing and burning, but if it frees up some space, it will be worth it!

Here are some pics:

Cool!

Is "Capsure" the Oz spelling for "Capture?"

Is 720x560@25 FPS the Euro-Oz "equivalent" (superior, actually) of Never The Same Color?

That's too cool, Classic! :approve: :D I can see what looks to be Mac OS 9.x.x running natively. What is the name of the software you're using to capture the video and sound? I can do the same on my Pismo, but I use an EyeTV under OSX Tiger.

IREZ Capsure is the name of the PCMCIA card, but it does do "capture"!

PAL (Pretty Awesome Luminance?) is the way to go for us folks downunder

Audio is c a p t u r e d via a Y-shape to 3.5 stereo miniplug.

I picked it up off ebay for AU$20 including shipping from the UK.

This from the back of the box:

"Turn your laptop into a portable A/V Machine with full-screen video (PB G3 only) and audio capabilities.

Simply insert the CapSure card into the PCMCIA slot and preview audio/video from your VCR, CamCorder

or Professional Camera- all without using processor horsepower. Its the perfect solution for video presentations,

video conferencing and video email"

That's too cool, Classic! :approve: :D
Thanks mate!

Yep, pismo is running 9.2.2, has 768mb RAM and 80GB HDD.

The capture software can be any that utilizes quicktime.

In this instance Avid VideoShop 3.0.2 which is adequate for simple recording.

I used the component codec to capture, but in the re-encode stage on the imac its taking its time.

I might try no compression and see if I get better results. Its a 500GB drive so should have enough space.

I did have some trouble initially getting setting the preferences for the scratch disk to the firewire drive.

In the end I just copied VideoShop to the external drive and problem solved.

How is the EyeTV? Is it USB? PCMCIA? or FireWire?

My EyeTV is a USB v1.1 model from I think 2002 or 2003. It works great, although you have to have Mac OS X 10.2 or higher for it to run. It supports both PAL and NTSC (built in), component video or S-video with stereo sound. You also can connect it up via TV aerial or various different coaxial cable TV sources. It can support Digital TV here in the U.S., but I would have to buy the digital TV converter box to receive the DTV signals. It does an awesome job recording and editing afterwards. Records medium and high quality A/V.

Does the IREZ Capsure pcmcia card support OS X Tiger? If it does, I could get one, use QuickTime Pro 7.x.x and record directly into QuickTime. No need for any additional software.

Cheers!

The EyeTV usb 1.1 with MPEG 1 capture. Very Cool. The first of its breed I think.

I have 10.4 on the pismo as well, but at heart I am a classic OS fan.

Unfortunately, the IREZ capsure does not support OS X and like so many other peripherals in that pre 2000 period it is unlikely to.

The card does support windows, but I won't go there...

Yay! I got my Irez Capsure from eBay (used). $19.99 and shipped fast for ground. I will keep you posted as to how I fare with it. I'm thinking of using QuickTime 6 Pro under OS 9.2.2 to record and save the videos or I may try Fusion Recorder (or whatever it's called) at it's max frame rate.
