Pismo Airport Card Slot Issue...

Restoring another Pismo...this is the same one that had the sound card defect...another oddity has presented itself.

A known working AirPort card was not seen by the unit (no info shown in the system profiler), but a Motorola WN825G wireless card inserted in the PCMCIA slot works just fine.

If the AirPort connection has a problem, would that trace back to a problem on the main board? It seems odd that the P slot works fine, but not the AirPort.

I expect the sound card problem is unrelated...there I get sound using the headphone jack, but nothing through speakers. I plan to tear it down and replace the sound card, just trying to figure out if I should go all the way to the logic board to resolve the AirPort problem. I can use the Motorola card if I have to, but it's kind of a pain.

Check for bent/broken pins on the internal connector. This is a surprisingly common problem. There might also be a fuse for the airport card (I don't remember for sure); if so, check it for continuity.

Thanks, I will do that. Tried another original Airport card in this one and same result, but it does run just fine with a Motorola card.

I believe that there is also a flex cable that connects the internal cage connector to the motherboard. It can get bumped loose, so check that it's properly seated. Maybe you'll get lucky!
