PB180 Repairs

I took apart the pair of 180s I have and pushed the best parts (the 240MB hard drive and 8MB of RAM) over to the better looking machine in preparation for it being sent as a nostalgia bomb to an old friend of mine. Interestingly, one of them was running 7.1 and the other 7.5.5. Booted up fine after the changes. All's good. I was a little surprised at how little is going on inside the PB180.

Best,

John

I was kinda impressed at how small the innards were. Most of the insides were taken up by battery bay, hard drive and floppy. The logic board is sorta scrunched up over in the back left corner, with the modem and SCSI parts lining a strip along the back. The RAM is on a weird card that lay along the top of the logic board. The chips had these quaint rubbery pads on them--heat sinks or protective pads?

The innards of the better-kept of the two were spotless--nary a dust bunny. The other, not so clean. Looked like it had been tinkered with some, and one of the internal parts where the screw came through from the bottom had busted off.

So, a little of both.

Best,

John
