OS9 icons question

Hi,

I'm looking for where could be stored some specific icons on the MacOS 9.2.2
system.
Mainly the "Applications" and "documents" icons , but some others too I've
pointed on this screenshot :

They seems to be specific to late system 9s (don't know if 9.0.4 has it).
Opened copies of System and Finder files with Resedit, but couldn't find it
in there ...
Nor in Classic, Classic Support, System Resources, panels...

Any ideas where these special icons are stored on the system ?

Are you sure they're not stored directly in the folder itself? Also check extensions like Appearance Manager.

Thanks... but don't know how to open a folder's resources, in Resedit I can only do "Get file/folder info...", but then I get nothing about icons in there...

Do you know how to open a folder's resource ?

And I don't have that Appearance Manager extension :-/

Checked in Appearance Ctrl panel and in the Platinum theme, but it's not in there...

A few are stored in Mac OS ROM I think. I don't recall if there's anything in Appearance Manager (that isn't even a separate and distinct extension in 8.5 and up, is it? If all you have is System, System Resources, and Finder, (and Mac OS ROM for NewWorld Macs) the special icons still show, so don't know), but it's worth digging around.

Mmmmh... Can't find any in the Mac OS ROM :

And this is the only one found in System Resources :

Weird he ?

The quest of the lost icons... :p

Not as weird as you think.

First of all, look at the icons in the screenshot, and compare them to the icons in ResEdit.

The ones in your screenshot are 16-bit (Thousands of colours), while those in ResEdit are 8-bit (256 colours). Mac OS 8.5 and newer store most of their icons in ICNS resources which ResEdit can't edit, you'd need to find something that can open those ICNS resources.

Second, I'm pretty sure a bunch of those are located in extensions, look in the contextual menu extension as an example.

Thanks a lot Finkmacunix !! They are indeed ICNSs.

Could find it in System Resources with a Resorcerer demo :
