New backlight for my iBook (before/after pix)

The backlight in my 12" iBook G4 was getting kind of dim, so I purchased a replacement from these folks:

The tubes arrived well-packed a few days later. Really thin and frail-looking! And getting access to the original part was also an adventure: You have to dig into the LCD, it's clipped and taped together tightly, and everything is super-fragile, so the potential for disaster is kind of high. ccfldirect offers to relamp your LCD for $85, and that may not be a bad way to go.

I reused existing silicone insulators, wiring assembly and shock mounts, but this too is a little tricky since the parts were never designed for reuse. New tube is slightly shorter than the original but with a bit of effort, it dropped into place okay.

And now for the before/after photos:

So far, I'm not 100% pleased with color rendition but will give the new CCFL tube some burn-in time and also try calibrating the screen with a Pantone Huey Pro and see how that helps matters. Granted, the iBook screens were always kind of mediocre and no match for some of the newer LCDs.
