Well, I did some more research on what I called ā€œpixel rotā€ and most seem to actually call it ā€œbleeding.ā€ People have actually cured it by massaging around the affected area of the display, so I tried just that, as my 180 screen had gotten up to three rows of black pixels that were getting bigger every day!

I guess it was kind of effective. Now I just have some black ā€œspecklesā€ instead of lines.

Thatā€™s actually not too bad, but the question is will it keep getting worse? Iā€™ll see tomorrow how it looks. Before it was getting worse each day.

Iā€™ve even seen some people say heat can potentially cure this issue (kind of like how it does with tunnel vision).

Either way, the good news is that this issue doesnā€™t seem nearly as common with these displays as tunnel vision, so hopefully I wonā€™t run into it again. This screen was already somewhat faded in the top left corner anyway (not darker but lighter), so it definitely had some previous damage, which may be why itā€™s bleeding now. Who knows.

And this is still the second 180 by the way! The first one I started this thread about is still absolutely perfect. Just want to avoid any confusion. I should probably start a second thread for this project 180.

I wanted to say that I actually ended up selling the PowerBook 180 I started this thread about awhile back! I had something else come up I REALLY wanted, and I ended up getting another very nice 180 that I baked and fixed the screen on which is my "main" one anyway, so I decided to list this one and it actually sold. I do miss it a little because it is probably one of the best-condition vintage laptops I have ever owned and ever will own, but I'm glad I was able to fund another one of my vintage computer-related projects with it.

Not sure if the buyer is on this forum or not, but if they are and they see this, then congrats! :)

So what was the new machine that you really wanted? Must be something special to part with a mint 180
