Hello everyone,

I have an Macintosh SE30 with a Radius Pivot.

When I connect a vga display (lcd ou CRT) i have image but blue color dominates et others color are very low.

If someone have an idea

An other question : With i can select only 16 colors max ? I believe this card can display 256 colors.

tks

Q: At startup, my screen is dark blue and doesn't look normal until the icons begin appearing on the bottom. Is something wrong?

A: No, this is an entirely normal occurrence. It is due to the fact that the Pivot driver software has yet to load into the system. Until that driver loads, the computer thinks that there is a monochrome portrait display connected. A color display which is mis-identified as a monochrome display will come up with a blue color on the screen. The sooner that this extension loads, the sooner a normal image will appear.

Way cool and oh so aggravating on so many levels that this topic came up!

a) Re-created the Blue Screen of Confusion error with SE/30 and IIsi ColorPivot cards in the SE/30 experimental test rig.

b )First instance ever of a Radius VidCard needing a driver not found in DeclROM for (what's almost or part of) a baseline function confirmed.

c) 16" resolution on my 15" KDS/Radius LCD looks fabulous, even in blue.

d) I can choose 256 grays or colors in the standard Monitors Control Panel from either card with no problem.

e) Finally managed to bork the one Pivot cable I have, so now I can try stupid RGB tricks until I fix it.

f) Discovered that my SE/30 adapted (chopped to schniznit) IIsi Passive SuperMac Riser is now borken as well. :-/

edit: crossthru text formatting is still borked. What's the BBCode(?) to try encoding for it directly?

The BBCode for strike through is "[ s ]", and at the end you put "[ / s ]". Take the spaces out within the quotes to get the REAL BBCode.

Great! But what software is it expecting? SoftPivot? RadiusWare? (I think RadiusWare but which one?)

Interestingly enough, the IIsi color Pivot doesn't need any software to work (tested that myself)...

Edit: With no drivers at all, I am able to re-create the blue screen of confusion and select up to 256 colours (256 blues) on my LCD with the right combination on the DA-15toVGA Adapter.

IIRC it also depends on the Color QuickDraw profile you're using. Some work while others don't.

So, same thing here.

As I was reading through the other thread, I had a thought. If you tie the monochrome output line (not sure what pin on the DA-15 connector it is; sorry) to both R, G, and B, that should give you white when the line goes high. Just a thought.

Well we have some confirmation that my theory was (at least partially) correct. You might want to try that beddy. Now, if you have a color pivot (rather than a monochrome one), then doing what I described won't make your situation much better.

Here are some pictures of the two Radius adapters:

Apparently similar... but they're not!

The one on the left is from the SE/30 monochrome card and the one on the right is from the IIsi Color Pivot. So clearly my card is monochrome as well. The larger connector won't fit on the SE/30 card so it's game over.

Glad you got yours to work properly though!

I feel so dumb.

Sweet! could you buzz and post the pinouts on that "monochrome" card cable. It looks like the ten pin cable I need to build for my FPD SE/30 card.

Why do you feel dumb? Even in grayscale a Pivot card's 16" resolution is a great addition to extend an SE/30's desktop. The color inning is over, but not the game.

I'm wondering if I can get my FPD card's output to show up onscreen without exhibiting the TPD stretch?

Sure. But how do I do that?

I feel dumb because I've been trying to get color on this card for the last two years.

Plus I now have two 17" DPD Greyscale SE/30 cards (it came with a Lapis DPD card). And the only real way (for now) to get color is with my IIsi card. I'm gonna buy 120 prototyping wires and solder two PDS connectors together so it'll fit inside the SE/30 with the cover on! I just need the wires, I have the adapters.

With a multi meter, test for continuity between the pins on the connector that plugs into the SE/30 card, and the pins on the DA-15 connector. (Which reminds me, I have a buzzing project to do for my video card).

Don't feel dumb, color is not necessarily the end-all either for SE/30 video. As jt pointed out, you can still have good extended display output from the card. Good luck with your fitment of the IIsi card inside your SE/30 though!

Never mind, it looks like I've got that same 12 pin(?) Radius Cable and it's yet another variation on that cabling theme with 10 connections between that connector type and either a DE-9 or DA-15 on the backplane that I need to find.

Ok now I know I have the monochrone release

It's for that I can set only 16 colors in monitors settings ?

tks.
