More stuff from my police officer friend

You know that guy I got the Compaq LTE 5300 a while back? He said he had more stuff for me a few weeks back, and today he delivered. Highlights include:

A Belkin 7 port stackable hub, the modular one. It has the box, and AC adapter as far as I can tell. It says it works with the mac. Not sure if it can do 2.0.

an Epson Perfection 1640SU Photo scanner. This puppy retailed for over $400 new. I FINALLY have a scanner that can work with my newer macs. It even has the photo bit in styrofoam still.

Another UMAX scanner with box, not sure on the condition since I have not opened the box yet.

the dock for my LTE. This thing is sweet. It's just like the DUOs. It has 2 drive bays that take the same module that is on the front of the laptop. It also has 2 more PC card slots, a monitor topper, and an array of ports on the back. It even has another dock connector on the bottom. IIRC, my old armada had the same deal on it's CD-ROM base. It was for the rear dock that was a port replication, since the CD base blocked the ports on the back of the laptop.

A Compaq Presario 5000 series. Not sure on the exact model, since it is still in the back of my mom's truck, but it has front USB ports, the colored plastics from the turn of the millennium, and some sort of CD caddy on the front, vertically mounted.

a compaq presario 4xxx. looks a bit older, beige. Says designed for 98, no processor label, but it does have front mounted USB ports behind a clear door.

I also have several monitors, a few keyboards, some mice, and misc. parts in boxes. More details tomorrow.

alright, I had a chance to look at the presario 5000. It has the original label on the side with model number (5BW120), and specs. My heart sank when I read them:

600mhz Celeron

64mb of RAM

up to 11mb used as video memory

15gb HD

CD-ROM

56k modem

I put in 2 128mb sticks for 256mb, it only has 2 RAM slots. Since it's a 600mhz celly, I think it's a coppermine, Pentium III based, socket 370.

I also have a gateway carcass with a 800 somewhat (odd mhz number) Athlon in it, socket A. The board looks like it will fit, I might do a swap. The gateway case is messed up real bad. I don't know if the front USB ports will be compatible or not.

Or I could leave it like it is, put windows 2k or XP on it for my dad, and a small linux partition, or just put a bunch of OSes on it for myself.

alright, I had a chance to whip out the other presario. It's a year older but much nicer. It has a AMD K6-2 at 533mhz, which is a bit slower, but it's sitting on a 100mhz (actually 95mhz) bus, versus the other machine using a 66mhz bus.

It also has a few surprises: a 17gb WD hard drive, a LG CD-RW, both of which are apparently factory (!), and a Nvidia G-force 2 MX 200, PCI, which from what I read has 64mb of RAM.

I wonder if I can use the later on B&W without a ROM flash. Anyone know, or know where I can get the firmware?

oh, don't worry, the machine has built in graphics, just like the other one.

I also found a Sidewinder Precision Pro, which makes playing my flight sim really sweet. from what I read, this is supposed to have a USB to DA-15 adapter, but I don't have one. Works with the built in game port on both machines though.
