Hi all I am trying to use a global village modem with my Performa 631cd. The modem works fine with my other older Macs but I get "Modem not responding Check connections and modem selection" error message with the Performa. :( I put all the same info in the PPP and the modem selection box as I did with my other machines but no go. Any sugestions what to look for and where?

For any external modem, IIRC...

AppleTalk control panel: "connect via" selection should not be set to compete for that serial port.

Chooser: no printer should be configured to be competing for that serial port.

Extensions: go thru the list for any likely serial and modem related suspects that might be inadvertently disabled. Unless you have exotic additions that cause extension conflicts, all enabled would be good.

System Folder:Extensions:Modem Scripts...your modem needs to have its configuration string script in the folder here.

Modem Control Panel: port and modem type need to be selected.

Cable: the pin connections need to support hardware handshaking and have the wiring for connections between a DTE (computer) and DCE (modem) so that outputs do not end up driving each other.

Hi I tried switching ports and modem works on printer port after switching to printer port in modem box . There must be a problem with the modem port. I don't know what it could be I got this computer 2nd hand so it could have been a problem before I got it. So to connect I must use printer port. Any ideas what the conflict could be that modem port is not working? This means as it stands now I can't hook up the printer while online not a big deal but it would be nice to have both hooked up to the right port
