Macintosh SE :D

Yessiree, an SE has recently come into my possession! I got it from an old family friend. She's an amazing old lady. She lives in the home her grandfather built in 1886. My dad tunes her pianos and we monitor the lake on her property for her. Anywho, seems she got her little SE in '87 and used it as her computer until about 2005 when the 20-meg HDD pooped out. She gave it to me to see if I could recover any of her files so she could use them on her PC that she got when it died.

The original HDD is totally shot; it spins up to a horrible clanking and grinding sound, vibrates a -lot-, and doesn't do much else. I'll try booting off a floppy soon with it plugged in to see if anything can be done. This was replaced with a 40-meg drive from my old Classic.

The original floppy drive was gone as well. Keep in mind that the house is mostly open, so the drive was coated in grime, dirt, dust, and a bit of rust. This was replaced with the mechanism from an external 800k drive, and works beautifully now.

The system came with 2.5 megs of RAM installed. It also came with some neat extras!

- A very dirty ADB Mouse.

- An Apple Extended Keyboard II :D

- An old original imagebanger!

She also gave me the manuals she had with the machine as well as some old software floppies. I was stunned when I got them home and looked; they were all from the original Macintosh! I have the guided tour disk, MacWrite/MacPaint tour, MacWrite, MacPaint, and something called "MacLabeler Disk". I also have the manual for the imagewriter, the manual for MacWrite, and the manual from an original Macintosh! No idea how those wound up with her SE, but they're neat nonetheless!

The floppies are all kinda mouldy-looking and the labels are peeling off, the result of living on a desk in Florida for 20 years. However, they all still work great! I've been having a lot of fun playing with MacPaint 1.0.

All in all a great conquest if I do say so myself!

I may post pictures sometime after now :beige:
