Welp, this weekend I am driving 500km round trip to Canberra to meet up with a fellow Aussie collector and 68k member to conquer myself a machine I've wanted for nearly 2 decades... a 9600/200MP. Also getting a couple of IIvx's and some other goodies to sweeten the deal further, but the main objective is the Powermac. :D

Shall make a nice accompaniment to my existing pro tower collection which currently stands at a pair of G5's, a Yikes G4, and a pair of B+W G3's... Some upright pro-beige will be a nice change and it will be kind of cool to have the dual-processor G5 running alongside it's pioneering multi-PPC grandfather.

Now the decision I must make is which of 3 cars to take... lol. Anyway, wish me luck and watch this space. :)

lol would love to take one of the old Fairlanes but I snapped the spring saddle bolts out of the front left on the red one a week ago I just remembered, and the white one has developed a squeak from a tailshaft joint... Guess I'll be welding the exhaust back onto the Calais and taking it lol

Welp, returned from my adventure yesterday and I dare say I am pleased with my haul, and not only that, it was great to meet up with a fellow member who shares the same passion for old Mac's as myself! :)

Ultimately, I came home with the following:

PM9600/200MP loaded to the hilt with RAM, 3 or 4 hard drives, a CD-R drive, USB/Firewire combo and dual-USB cards, PCI  Ultra-SCSI card, and 64Mb Radeon 7000 graphics card.

Brand new 9600 logic board to replace the one in it which is apparently flakey.

Sonnet 400Mhz G3 upgrade daughtercard to suit 7xxx/8xxx/9xxx series machines.

Complete boxed Targa 2000 for Mac.

Broadcom-based PCI wireless LAN card.

IIvx in working condition.

IIsi with a weak PSU.

Various software, digital copies of now-unobtanium literature and manuals etc.

I have replaced the logic board in the 9600 tonight after the machine failed to chime on startup or show a raster, and have now got it to chime with the new board, however still having an issue getting the display to show, which I believe may be simply a conflict or issue with RAM or installed hardware. I have removed the 7000 and put it into my G4 for the time being as it seems a better use of such a graphics card, and I have put the stock 16Mb Rage128 card into the 9600, however it is possible I will try to obtain another 7000 card to install back in at a later date. At this stage the IIvx and IIsi have not been powered up... shall get to them when I collect one of my compatible displays and also when i get the 9600 going first. :)

Anyway... will get some pics when I have something running! :)

PCI variant and came with v1.5.2 drivers and also a set of 2.2 floppies all for PCI. :)

After a whole night tinkering, still havent gotten the 9600 booted successfully yet.I may stick the old board back in and have a play with the positioning of PCI cards later as I suspect that may have been the issue it had with inconsistent booting. I am suspecting the new board has deteriorated over time but eh... nothing a recap wont fix!
