Hi mates,
today I decided to give dignity to a Mac Plus I had resting since a while in the rack.
After the usual inspection (it was in good conditions) and cleaning i tuned it on and it showed the floppy with the question mark.
Fine, so I connected the floppy emu with system 6.0.8 and voila, it booted just fine.
I had an external floppy drive, disassembled, cleaner, lubed, I replaced the usual nasty small gear in the eject mechanism and reassembled.
With my beloved SE/30 I prepared a 800k floppy with the usual system 6.0.8.
It booted just fine!
So far so good.
It was the turn of the SCSI2SD v5.2, the firmware is the last as of today 4.8.4.
I recall the Plus does not terminate the SCSI unless a diode is installed in the empty CR1, so I soldered it, so now I do not need an external power supply.
SCSI2SD was configured as ID 0 and terminated, I dd-ed a 2GB image with system 6.0.8.: my usual working procedure.
To my surprise the Plus does not boot, the floppy with the question mark was staring at me .
Shutdown, floppyemu connected, I turn-on and it booted from the floppy (virtual), and the SCSI was mounted right after (the same thing with the real floppy).
I could run apps and browse the folders in the SCSI drive with no issue, but - no way - it refused to boot from it.
I tried to initialize and partition the disk image from the plus itself with system 6.0.8: no way.
Desperate I tried without success to play with some parameters
selectionDelay 1
quirks Apple
vendor SEAGATE
I read that early versions of the Mac Plus have ROM unable to boot from a SCSI device? Is it?
Does this issue happen only with the SCSI2SD itself?
