Mac plus - floppy drive swap(s)?

I have two 400k drives from Mac 128k shells. I want to verify their operation. I cleaned them up and lubricated them, the mechanics of them work just fine, but I want to see if they work at all.

Is it possible to use a 400k drive on a Plus? My Plus has an 800k drive in it, I just want to see if these 400k drives work at all.

Edit: Interesting, these drives are dated January 1984 and March 1984. One of the cases the January one came out of must have been an early unit.

The Plus can drive a 400K floppy. I'm not certain about physical fit (is the bracket the right size?).

Ok. Well I tested both but there is no activity from either of the drives except for the optical sensors at the front of the board light up.

Capacitors next?

The physical size of the drive is to large to fit in the original bracket. if it were used permenently it would have to be drilled approprietly to be mounted correctly.

You need to use the bracket from the 128Ks to put the 400K Drive into the Plus. The fit is supposed to perfect as the hardware frames and face plate were not changed. And though it's late, yes you can use a 400K drive in a Plus.
