Had an amazing haul at Goodwill yesterday, best in ages!

- 12 PC and Macintosh games, 5 of them boxed (some good SSI stuff) and Microsoft Bob!

Caesar, Robosport, Rainbox Six for Mac

- ADB Trackball Pro boxed

- Radius Mac 512/SE Accelerator card boxed

- DOS on Power Mac 8100's card by Reply boxed

- Some Baldur's Gate novels

- Commodore 64 computer system, boxed with games and extras

... all for $40.17

Quite a lovely deal, for me. I didn't have any of this stuff and had interest in some of it for a while now. Had a C64, but not boxed with manuals and the extras are always nice!

The Mac boards are very intriguing to me. I don't have systems to try them on (need a 512/SE computer and 8100, I have a 128 and 6400), but hope to remedy that at some point. Especially the DOS card, that sounds like it could be fun since PCs were my first love. They are complete in box too, with manuals, cables, and even the original polystyrene and excess packaging.

I don't suppose a 6400 would work instead of an 8100?

I don't think the DOS card would work in a 6400 since it has to connect to either the PDS slot of the 8100 or a NUBUS slot, neither of which the 6400 has.

The closest you might get other than an 8100 *might* be a 7100.

Yeah, that's what I had gathered from Lowendmac and such. I suppose I'll be on the lookout for one then - I've been wanting a desktop Power Mac besides the fact.

jruschme's right - you'll need a first gen Power Mac to use the card. It says "DOS on Power Mac", rather than simply "DOS on Mac", which leads me to believe that the card is actually intended for the 601 PDS (which was only ever used on the 6100/7100/8100/9150), in addition to the fact that Apple's DOS cards were only ever PDS, never NuBus, since PDS provides greater bandwidth than NuBus, IIRC. I think the only company that ever made NuBus DOS cards was Orange Micro. Anyway, assuming its a 601 PDS card, it should just drop into any 7100, 8100 or WGS 9150, and I'd imagine that with a PDS right-angle adapter (or G3 upgrade), it should also run on the 6100, provided there's enough space inside the 6100's case.

Anyway, nice haul - I especially approve of the boxed C64 and Radius accelerator :D

The right angle adapter for the 6100/DOS is specifically for the DOS card. It's not the same as the adapter for video cards - it apparently re-creates an '040 PDS, meaning Quadra DOS cards can be used in 6100s and vice versa. Thus the G3 upgrade won't work with the 6100 DOS card either.

But wait... if this DOS card really does go in the 8100 PDS (which the box should say, somewhere), maybe it *would* work, at least with a real 6100 PDS RA adapter.

That haul is possibly the most awesome MLA thrift score evar.

I know that the right angle adapter for the DOS card won't work, for the reason you mentioned. However the right angle adapter for the Power Mac AV card simply goes to another 601 PDS, so I can't see any reason as to why that wouldn't work, if you can find one. (you might have more luck finding a G3 card)

I'd be too scared to touch it. Someone made a pact with the Devil to produce that thing. That's some baaaad mojo.
Precisely the reason I want to try it. Admittedly I have an odd fetish for bad/failed/Satanic software and hardware.

I don't know which poor machine I want to inflict that kind of pain onto though...

That's exactly what I said.

I seem to recall that nothing but a video card will work in the G3 card's PDS passthrough, for some reason.
