Lisa OS

Huh. I wonder if a Disk 5 from another OS might work --- I'm afraid I never checked what files are kept on the disks, and if #5 is all driver files and other support code, it might not matter which language distribution it uses.

We've been discussing and comparing OS disks from different languages over on lisalist2.com --- would you consider uploading your disk images there? I could do it too, with access to the images.

Thanks again! (! this time instead of ?)

Hi Stepleton,

Yes probably will work, it will be great to have a full set available, maybe someone around has the missing unit or a full set, but the question has been asked in another French forum and most working units were not in the French version.

Send me your e-mail, i will send images to you as well, you probably can handle those better than i will do.

For you information also, images are LisaOs 2.0 , so the Profile was upgraded at some point or the Profile was not the one matching the Lisa at the first place (my friend had two Profiles, the other was tested but not working)

Hi bibilit,
Would you mind posting the product numbers that correspond to each disk you imaged? (for example, something like "682-0088-A = LisaCalc", and so on). Pictures would be great, too!

As for emulation - my copy of LisaEm can't install LOS 2.0 in any language currently, for some reason. I'm working on getting it working, but at least I can see the install prompt in French for your first disk, and the tool disks mount correctly, too.

Hi,

the Lisa is not longer with me... i will ask, the only one i have a product number is the one i posted at some point:

F682-0060-A = LisaTerminal IIRC ?

I tried LisaEm yesterday at work in a Windows computer, but wasn't able to make it work either... working great in my Imac (C2D) though

Thanks, I've now shared your disk images on lisalist2.com! (You need to be logged in as a user to find them.) I don't know if anyone has any plans to do anything with them right away, but now they're there if anyone wants to have a look or give them a try.

By the way, none of my copies of the US English version 2.0 of the Office System have a Disk 5. It could be that there is no Disk 5 for 2.0. I looked at a LisaList2-shared copy of the German 2.0 version of the Office System as well, and I couldn't find a Disk 5 there, either.

Thanks again for the imaging!

@fri0701

What kind of error are you getting, tried again several times, and not able to install either, Lisaem keeps complaining that is not able to write to the Profile.

I’m getting that same issue for all versions of LOS 2.0. I’ve been in contact with Ray (developer of LisaEm), and I believe he’s taking a look.

Tested some images on Lisaem (LOS 3.0) same Tools are slightly different (LisaList size is bigger in the F version (296 instead of 294 blocks, but can just be a difference between LOS 2.0 and LOS 3.0)

Opening a French file will generate a conversion.

Images found online (Macintosh Repository) have 5 disks ? (oddity ?)

I took a look at these images today, and the disk Macintosh Repository (and others) have labeled as Disk 5 is actually LisaGuide 2.0. I think this means that we do, in fact, have all of the OS disk images for 2.0F!

Ray has confirmed that the install failure we're seeing was introduced in a recent version of LisaEm. I went back to an older version, and although I'm able to install LOS 2.0 in English and German, the French install is still giving me trouble with that same "cannot write to disk" error you saw at random points in the install process. Back to the drawing board...

Will be great to have a working set (i have not a working Lisa, so not really for me) but for all french owners...

to install LOS 2.0 in English and German

you can create as much Profile drives as required and boot from them using preferences ?

Through LisaEm, you can create new ProFile images, install whatever you want on them, and save them as 5MB disk images. You can then take whatever ProFile images you like and attach them to LisaEm (and specify which you'd like to boot from). It's possible to load several at once by emulating a dual-Parallel card (or several)

Speaking of that... using BLU (http://sigmasevensystems.com/blumanual.html) on a Lisa, it's possible to dump the contents of a ProFile drive over a serial connection to a .dc42 image on a modern computer. I believe LisaEm provides a utility program (I wrote one myself a couple years ago, too) to take a BLU disk image and convert it into a format that can be read and emulated by LisaEm. I've done this for some of my ProFile drives, and I can now load them in LisaEm.

If you still had access to the Lisa and drive you mentioned in your first post, this would be a way to get a version of LOS 3.1F archived without having the install disks. Is this a possibility you could look into?

Not at the moment, but who knows in the future.

Thanks to the combined efforts of users bibilit and pascalg, as well as Apple Lisa Facebook user Renaud Feyfant, we were not only able to piece together a complete set of Lisa Office System 2.0F (French), but also Lisa Office System 3.1F (French)! The only things missing are the examples for LisaCalc 2.0F.

For each version, I've converted all the images to .dc42 format, deserialized and de-bozoed them all, and made a deserialized ProFile image containing the OS and all 7 applications. Please let me know if you find any issues with any of the disks, and I'll update the archive.
