Lion supported Cube

As far as projects go, you end up with a very well dressed MacMini, that along with an ADC Studio LCD monitor, with DVI Adapter, it would be a superb machine on any workstation.

Is it still a Cube? That is THE question. If I had a spare (non working) Cube, it, and a matching monitor, it would be on my desk at work so fast. . . . .

Would I gut a working Cube to do it, not a chance.

I still have my original cube (used for over 8 years as my main system so I'm a bit tired of it.) But I plan to make it a beefed up Mac OS9 system

Sticking a Mini into an older Mac is a natural way to modernize it. A Cube is easy, or a 128K, or an Apple II, if you want to run Lion on one. The biggest obstacle is often the monitor. OTOH, it means sacrificing the old computer as well as a new Mini which is kinda cool in its own right. As for Cubes, they are cheap and plentiful on eBay, especially as-is examples without power supplies, so that probably wouldn't stop me. As it happens I have a spare cube chassis which is a good candidate, but I don't have a spare Mini, and new Minis aren't all that cheap.

I did make one of my Minis into a miniature aluminum Cube containing a 3.5" HD and USB & FW hubs. It's basically just an aluminum wrap-around shell for the Mini and an OWC MiniStack. A Mini-skirt... :D

Nice, H3NRY. The matching shuffle is a nice touch.

Is the plastic lip at the bottom a part of the case, or a part of the stand?

Its about as much of a Cube as this is still an Astra. (for those who are curious, the car I linked to is essentially a Vauxhall Astra with Holden Monaro underpinnings) Basically...it still has the original shell, and thats about it. Either way, I do respect the work thats been put into it, and if I had a dead Cube I would certainly entertain the idea myself (its a lot better than turning it into a tissue box), but there's no way you'd ever see me do it to a running Cube.

Yes, but at least it would be useful as a tissue box holder while scrounging around for a spare Mac mini. ;)
