Recently resurrected my old lc3 from the dead. The system has been pretty fault less after a recap. But was trying to play the secret of monkey island the whole system freezes at the same point every time. If i run the game with audio disabled it will run completely fine. What is likely causing the issue here have tried re flowing the pins on the sound chip but no dice.
Video of it crashing:
Video of it working:
an aside question is it normal for the boot up to chime twice:

Try deleting and reinstalling QuickTime. Install version 2.5.

Are you rynning System 7.6 or later without a battery?

Doing so often results in the computer defaulting to 24bit addressing mode. 7.6 and later only support 32bit addressing, so you see the Happy Mac, the system detects 24bit, sets 32bit and automatically restarts.

Quite handy really :)

had a go of this but still pretty new to retro mac stuff so might not be uninstalling properly before reinstalling it.
so far still having the same issue.
using a bluescsi so might try installing an older version of system 7 and installing quicktime from scratch and see how it goes.

7.6.1 is probably OK for an LC3. If it was mine, I'd triple boot 7.1, 7.5.3 and 7.6.1.

To remove QuickTime, go in to System Folder>Extensions, and move all the files with QuickTime in the name into a folder on the desktop, then go into System Folder>Control Panels, and move the QuickTime Settings control panel into the same folder on the desktop. Then for good practice, restart, then install the new version.

I also used to have a lot of problems with Sound Manager 3+ on my original LC, so you could try swapping that out for an earlier version if you do have that one loaded.

I recommend 7.5.3-7.6.1 for an LC III, but if you're willing to do some ResEdit hacking, you can get 8.0 and 8.1 onto it, as I've done on my LC III. If you do that, it's worth overclocking the LC III to 33MHz, which is done by moving a 0-ohm resistor on the board. You can look up how to do both

I switched to an pre made image of 7.1.1 and it works fine so good to know its a software issue and not hardware. Was too caught up thinking it was a board issue that software issue didn't even come to mind.

I have actually been wanting to try the LC III plus mod so will most likely do that soon wanted to get the thing stable first before i started mucking about. had no idea it could actually run 8.0.

it is common to find incompatibilities between the different versions? open to multi booting the thing. just assumed 7.6.1 would be the most stable and have the most application support.

It's a ballance of speed and compatibility. 7.1 is fast, but progressively more software works with newer OS versions. I usually run the oldest OS I can for best performance. And older OSes use less RAM too.
