iStat seems to be a strange combination of informations, ... but well I don't use X at all.
Of course there are programs for getting all the informations at 9.
Most important is the Application "System Profiler" which is shipped with MacOS 9 (or below). You can find it at the Apple menue.
For CPU and task monitoring there are several applications like "CPU-View" or "CPU-Monitor", "YAPI" or "ProcessInfo". The most professional one in my opinion is "Peek-a-Boo" which is still sold:

For CPU and Cache software take some application from an upgradecard manufacturer. Look here:
viewtopic.php?f=15&t=14102 personally I love "CPU Director" from Powerlogix (ask Macsales who took the support, they are kind). "CPU Director" also shows me the Cache speed as memory data transfer, etc. etc.
