I agree -- that silver paint ruins it for me, especially mated to a stock keyboard. Should've left the case/mouse unpainted, IMNHO.

It's hard to tell. I guess he could have made up a new waterslide transfer and applied that before the lacquer coat -- that's how I would have done it anyway!

I'd hope it was a junker before he started.. otherwise it is a perfect example why you shouldn't "mod" macs. I doubt any even half serious collector / mac user would want to touch something like that.

Besides - you're basically destroying history when you do so. I'm sure people "pimp" model T fords too.

It wasn't worth $220 before the paint job and still isn't.

BTW, did anyone else notice the Apple logo is blue?

I advise anyone with a nice mint CC to upgrade it to an LC575 motherboard by doing the resistor soldering on the back of the LC575 board. Keep the stock CC board in the closet.

That makes it much (!) more useful, while still maintaining 100% of whatever historical/collector value it may have ever had.

If you've got a real junker, then by all means, go crazy and mod it.

I've got an awesome Takky with two PCI slots, IR sensor, ZIP drive, and other goodies, and I regret building it instead of a mystic. My only consolations are that it's really awful nasty yellow, and I didn't trash the analogue board: I sold it to another CC collector in need.

At least he got the spray job professionally done at an auto body shop. IMHO it looks pretty good, but then I have no respect for collectors or collector's items.

I paid for both the silver and the black modded macs at the price he requested. However I am doing some research as to what "the market" perceives the actual value of the macs to be and will be asking for the difference less shipping to be returned to me after the conclusion of my research.

I really like these macs as you hardly come by modded macs that are for sale (at least in my experience) which is why I paid for them (didn't want them to go to the junkyard!) but I also don't like the idea of being ripped off, knock on wood everything will turn out ok...
