iBook Clamshell Screen Replacement Advice

I've got an iBook Clamshell (graphite 466MHz FireWire) with a bad screen and I was able to buy a screen that is supposed to work (it's a LG Phillips LP121X04). I don't actually know what brand the current broken screen is. What else do I need to prepare for this? The old guide I found says you need a specific LG display cable but I'm not even sure if I need that because I don't know what the screen currently in the clamshell is, and even if I do need it I'm not sure I'll be able to get it. Can I get some advice from someone who's actually done this?

If your broken screen is a LG, then no prob, the display cable you have with it will do with your working LG screen.

If your broken screen is a Samsung, then you must find a Samsung display cable.

I think there was another third screen brand too, not sure.

Anyways, each goes with their own cables.

Changing a screen that has the correct cable installed is easy, but changing the cable is more a pita.

I don't actually know what screen the broken one is, taking apart a clamshell frankly scares me.

It's not fun, but doable.  You'll need to crack open the Clamshell display to check what LCD and cable you have then source the replacement.  Doing this isn't so bad as you just need access to the top lid and it all pops out easily enoughm but be careful you don't crack the plastic around the Apple logo (which all tend to crack), don't overtighten screws when reassembling.  You could also consider the 1024 x 768 mod if you have the right cable, as sourcing one of these panels is easier (snow iBooks and 12" Powerbooks use)

Yeah, the LG panel I mentioned in the first post is a 1024x768 one. How do you take the screen bezel off? Is it just two screws and a ton of snaps?

I'm an unlucky girl, of course I open my Clamshell up and it's a Samsung LCD. Guess I'm gonna need a professional after all.
