I killed an iMac today. let it rest in peace.

it was a nice 2.1ghz G5 20" isight model.

it had 1 line in the screen, but otherwise worked. the optical drive was NOT reading discs and it wouldnt see the USB CDROM to boot from like my 17" isight does.

So, i took it all apart. figured out the drive was toast. but i noticed the fans ramping up, and random shutdowns.

I reflowed everything, blew out the clogging dust, new thermal paste. everything was fine.

So i began to put the screen in, and noticed i trapped the optical drive thermal sensor cable under the main heatsink, so i pulled up on the heatsink not thinking about loosening the board. it screwed something up right then. the machine never powered on again. soon as you press power b utton, nothing. sometimes if you kept pressing it, the white light would flicker once. and thats it.

So with extreme anger built up, i punched the motherboard as hard as i could right in the CPU area. Now it powers on, with white LED and fans, but no bong and otherwise totally dead, and the CPU gets red hot really fast, then the fans ramp up again.

may it rest in peace.

it is probably not worth a new LCD screen and logic board, unless someone has one for parts or bad plastics really cheap.
