Hi,

My SE is making this high pitched noise, and I think it's the flyback transformer.
I believe they are supposed to make this noise, but I'm not sure it's normal.

Open it up and see if there is any arcing/cracks around the flyback, while powered on.

How high pitched? Are you aware that CRTs make a whine that only young people can hear?

Not normal for it to whine like that, certainly not enough to be audible over the fan. Could be the core in the flyback is ringing because the glue around it is cracked.

I believe it's 15,625Hz, which is what flyback transformers produce. I can hear up to ~18,000Hz.
It's inconsistent though.
