Ghostscript & MacGSView for Mac OS 9!

And finally there always was a free Ghostscript for Mac OS 9.

This Ghostscript interface is working quite well, and additionally looking very good.

http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/macos/index.htm

You can exchange the GhostScript Library with a newer version than the included 6.x

Sadly the latest MacGS shhlib 8.51 from 2005 (with Carbonized shlib) is not working at my G4 at all:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/ghostscript/files/AFPL%20Ghostscript/8.51/

The last version that is working without problems is the 8.0 from 2002:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/ghostscript/files/AFPL%20Ghostscript/8.00/

But that version is no real improvement over Acrobat/Acrobat Reader 5.05

The question is if some experianced coder may have a look, if compiling the recent

GPL Ghostscript 9.10 for using it with MacGSview from above is easily possible? Or at least why the 8.51 does not find the shlib when put to MacGSView. That way we could immediatly have Mac OS 9 back at displaying modern PDF 1.7 and up! I consider the broken PDF usage as one of the biggest problems with Mac OS 9, and it is perhaps very easy to solve this.

So, please if you can code, or know somebody who can, have a look!

Really – nobody interrested in that topic at all? I am uning PDFs on a daily basis at my Mac OS 9 an stumble more and more into problems. And here might be the solution.

I think it is highly unknown that GhostScript for Mac OS 9 is availaible at all. What do you think?

A little patience. This may have interesting applications, but perhaps it's just that nobody has time to look at it right now. I'll have a look at it in the new year, as soon as I find /where/ exactly my iBook is hiding.

Fine, I am totally patient. It is just that I really belive that one could be a huge improvement for using Mac OS 9. So I annoyed Cameron as well, as nobody here answered. He told me to have a look like you did.

Somehow I fear that the recent GPL Ghoistscript is not that easy, but the AFPL Ghostscript should be. But you will both tell us! ;)

BTW the original link is gone. Grab the original application from here:
