FAT formatted disks, converting files (system 7)

Hi all,

I have a Sony Mavica camera that uses floppy disks. When I take out the floppy and stick it in my performa, the image files have a PC label. I know that the way mac and dos handle files is different, something about resource forks/data forks or whatever. I know that I can open it on my mac in photoshop. But I was wondering if I could "convert" the image files, and what utility I can use for this. See, when I attach these images to an email in outlook and send them from my mac somewhere, I can't open it on the other computer. I think it has something to do with this dos/mac thing.

There were a few other tools that could change type and creator codes.

You can also use something like Graphic Converter to bulk rename/re-save these files which would put a thumbnail of the image as an icon and set its type/creator appropriately.

What version of the OS do you have? I don't remember this being particularly wild when I last used my Mavica, though I tend to run 7.6.1 or 8.1, and I also usually have QuickTime installed, which takes creatorship of those files.

GraphicConverter is great for graphics conversion operations.

PC Exchange is the name of the official apple program that allows FAT disks to be mounted to the desktop, and also handles some type/creator codes based off of DOS file extensions too.

I use ResEdit to manually change the type and creator codes on files.
