Does this monitor work on my Apple II gs

It looks like an Apple High Resolution RGB monitor. Indeed, it's a fairly safe bet that any monitor that is hooked up to a Mac will not work with the IIgs. (Yes, I know there are exceptions. But they are exceptions.)

You need the original Apple RGB monitor or something else able to synchronize H frequency to 15.6-15.7 like NEC multiscan or old 1084 amiga monitors. Most tv, either LCD, are able but you need SCART PERITEL connector with RGB input to obtain good quality with 640x200 resolution. Take a look on my signature.

Oh Macbuk looking at your signature put tears on my eyes :'( :'( :'( I missed my Apple II gs * sniff * I missed her, Apple II gs is the ULTIMATE APPLE II. It beats all the Apple II series on the ass....* wipes his eyes from tears * but alas it is in Montreal..awaiting to be shipped to BC. I am right now in Ottawa and I have a month to go before I head to BC there...but I miss it.

AND SEEING your signature made my eyes water...people...Apple II gs is the most sexiest Apple II computer ever AND IT SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO relaxing...hearing that elegant boob sound when you first turn it..make my head swim. Seeing the disk drive going tada-tada-tada-tada-tada as it first loads makes all emulators of it a trash. And hearing that soft Zzzzzzzz sound of the 3" disk drive as it loads...is so much fun.

I love your Album alot...but I notice that monitor for the Apple II gs...especially designed for the Apple IIgs...please...can you help me find one? I need one....thanks.

Did you check ebay in Canada? I have a spare IIgs monitor that works, but I don't think you want to pay shipping to Canada for it.

If I am going to only pay for shipping and handling then it will be worth it. Because if shipping and handling go up to 60 bucks...then I paid for the shipping and handling I will consider as if I bought the monitor here in Canada for 60 bucks. Please...can you check the shipping and handling for me, I want the monitor and willing to pay shipping and handling. Thanks in advance.

JRL: um.. read what was actually said before you jump the gun. If you've ever turned on a IIGS you'll know it makes a sound, and boob or booob or even beep are pretty good approximations of the noise it makes.

It is possible to build a IIGS RGB to SCART cable for attaching to a SCART socket on a TV. I made one for my IIGS and it works well with TVs and SCART monitors. Here's a site that explains how to do it: http://vintageware.orconhosting.net.nz/apple2/scart.html

The only issue is geographical - I'm pretty sure that SCART sockets are only standard on TVs in Europe. However there may be some in America / Canada that have this type of input or something similar, I'm not sure.

I thank you guys for the effort and help you are giving me. I am going to head your advices, I also received an awesome email from grent. I am going to paste it here in case someone else is in the same predicament as I am will gain benefit from his awesome help. This paste goes to the credit of Grent:

Hi,

I see you are having problems with getting a IIgs monitor?

If you are ever coming over the states, I could hook you up with one. Anyways

You can use a sony TV/Monitor KV 1311. You would have to make a cable up to

the IIgs an the TV 50 pin header. I have the pin outs on how to do this.

SOMEWHERE. When I find them I will scan and save them. With this cable and set

up it you can have a 13 tv/monitor that works as well and like the IIgs

monitor only it is 1 inch larger. A couple of wires have broke off my home

made cable. So I have to fix mine as well. This cable will also work on the

Sony XBR 25 inch TV/Monitor.

You can display the 80 col with no problems. On a 25 inch set it is not as

crisp as the 13 inch. Any time you blow up the screen size you increase the

imperfections as well.

You can put a regular RCA cable to any TV/Monitor. But you will not be able to

read 80 col, or change the color of the text and background. But for a lot of

things it is ok.

You might want to try this with any LCD tvs or monitors you have. Some day I

hope to do this and take pictures of the results.

You might want to check the Craig list, or even post a listing in the wanted.

http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites.html

Just type in what you want to search for in the search box like "apple" and

see what comes up.

Check out this link for some other monitor choices. The atari monitors did not

hold up to well if I can remember.

Check out Waynes Shed and on page 2 click on any of the pictures. This has to

be Wayne Biddens since he sells a lot of stuff at a fairly high price.

This is slightly off-topic, but I didn't know they made Apple-labeled Quantum 80GB HDDs. ;) (look at the eBay auction)

Hi foody.

I think you'll find an apple II gs rgb color monitor on ebay.

I use to check ebay usa all weeks, despite i'm in italy, and i've noticed that

IIgss and their stock monitors go generally for cheap (unlike in europe)

Moreover IIgs monitor are fragile and those fully functional will be less and less over time. Another reasonable opportunity is to search for an european tv with scart cable or something synchronizing to 15 khz Hsynch.

However LCD type monitors and TV do not lile superhires 640x200: it does large use of dithering to obtain 16 colors and this often lead to vertical strip spread all over GSOS desktop because of a non perfect line to line resolution correspondence.

So you are telling me all I need to do is get a TV that supports SCART and simply get a SCART cable for my Apple IIgs and bang problem solved? That seems more easier than finding an Apple II gs monitor. But are there any SCART cables for Apple II gs? I am no pro in building my own though...

If you look as a collector, apple rgb monitor is obviously a better choice.

Otherwise i strongly suggest using an old sony trinitron CRT TV, scart equipped as i do with one of my 4 apple IIgs.

Overall quality is even better than the standard apple IIgs rgb monitor.

My low res youtube videos are affected by a lot of camera-CRT artifacts but may give you an idea.

The first 2 videos are available in high quality, if you click on the bottom right corner, and give the idea of crispness on a trinitron TV.

If you haven't the knowledge to solder an DIY cable (this could be the reason to start and learn soldering) here you can find a person that makes sells those cable.

I love you all guys and especially you Mac. Thank you for that scart cable link...thank you so much!!! I appreciate ALL the help you guys did...thank you all again.

I am counting the days to move to BC to have my Apple II gs shipped from Montreal to BC. Oh, God! Guys I miss my Apple II gs * sniff * I missed it. * ssssiigh * Ones I am done with my job contract with the government I will move to BC and then I can have my baby back. I don't want an Apple II, I don't want an Apple IIc/e or any other Apple II except my Apple II gs.

Did you guys know I already have an internal SD HD installed in this baby, bought a brand new Apple II gs power supply hooked with a nice loud fan (I love the loud fan) to cool the system in.
