Do Not Have Enough Access Privileges Error - Mac OS 9.2.2

Reformatting the USB key to HFS fixed the programs on the USB. I actually had to reformat the drive twice - for some reason OS 9.2.1 did not recognize Snow Leopard's Mac OS Extended formatting and asked if I wanted to initialize the drive.

There's still a lingering problem even after all this work. Certain games won't load as they are asking for ATI 3D accelerators. I enabled all of the ATI extensions with the exception of the ATI Rage 128 extension and ATI Resource Manger extension (these cause the OS to freeze after it loads). Even after enabling these extensions, I'm still notified that the games won't load because its missing 3D accelerators (some games state that no 3D card is installed). I'm using an ATI Radeon graphics card; I don't remember which model.

These games worked fine in OS 9.2.2. Could it be a software issue? Is there a significant difference between OS 9.2.1 and OS 9.2.2? I don't have the upgrade disc for 9.2.2

There shouldn't be any major differences between 9.2.1 and 9.2.2. It's odd that you would have so many problems with it, though.

I think, if you look hard enough, you can still download the standalone 9.2.1-to-9.2.2 updater. It might not include the full set of 9.2.2 extensions, but it would ensure that your up to date, as far as the basics go.

You might also try downloading the aftermarket ATI drivers (I can't remember exactly what the package is called, but it's for Radeons and it is dated either 2002, 2003 or 2005), as the stock ones included in 9.2.x sound like they're not quite adequate for your card.

And the thing is I can't explain why. This B&W always ran funny, even after I removed the original G3 logic board and replaced it with a 400MHz G4 board. At least everything was free, 10+ years ago.

Hmm, very odd. It's like it's haunted or something.

Are all the cables, PSU, RAM, etc. still original from before the logic board swap?

It's not hugely likely, but it could be a problem with an IDE cable or the PSU.

PSU is original. Cables were changed. RAM was upgraded to 1GB way back in the day. It's always started - unlike my IIfx which recently required a PSU swap - and the sound is very strong. Everything is clean.

I think what I'll do is hookup the other Quantum 4GB drive I have to the B&W - it also has 9.2.2 installed - and I'll see what ATI extensions I have there. Hopefully that drive starts since its on its last leg.

My other Quantum HD has the same ATI extensions installed. The issue with my current Quantum HD is it will hang indefinitely if the ATI Resource Manager extension is enabled after startup. When this extension is removed, I can reach the login screen and desktop. Also, I've noticed that the ATI Accelerator 2.0 extension icon is crossed out during startup - not sure why as it is enabled.

I can run Hoyle Card Games without issue - everything else requires these 3D accelerators to run (or "bad things" might happen, as one game noted).

Fixed my ATI extensions problem. Totally forgot I had this gem in my software library:

So now I've got the correct extensions and drivers for my ATI card. Here's the control panel:

All that's left is to figure out why the Zip drive doesn't work. None of the Iomega drivers that came preinstalled in OS 9.2.1 seem to recognize the Zip drive - it says the drive is not connected even though it is.

Also, I've noticed that the volume control likes to preset itself halfway every time I login to the desktop. I have to manually adjust it to my preferred settings. Not sure why its doing this.
