Daystar Digital "Adapter Classic" w/ PowerCache P33

I had to take a vintage computer hiatus for a bit, but I'm back and I bought a thing I can't find really any information about online.

It appears to be "new in box". Both the adapter and the 40 Mhz PowerCache. I'll take some pictures and post them when I get a chance, but the thing is supposed to let you install a PowerCache in a standard Mac Classic and the adapter also has RAM slots on it to improve memory access performance and increase the max RAM ceiling of the Classic.

Has anyone come across this "Adapter Classic" thing from Daystar before?

I remember reading about it a long time ago. If I remember correctly people had issues with system stability because the software that comes with it is so-so.

Nice, that must be this thing then

That's the only picture I could ever find of it so far.
Super curious to see some higher resolution pictures of it.

Yeah, that looks about right. Except mine is a tan PCB I think. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

I had never heard of that one. I've got one for the SE that was new in the box when I bought it. Now it is new in an open box, as the only Daystar card I have is a 68040, and the manual makes no mention of that working with the adapter.

Yeah, you want a PowerCache for the SE adapter. There are plenty about, but obviously such things aren't cheap any more :(

It's doubtful I'll ever use it; I like having a networking card in there too much to try to speed it up. I bought it over a decade ago and really didn't think I'd use it when I did. I did buy one of those Appletalk to ethernet bridges to try to free up the PDS slot, but never went further than testing that out. It worked fine for the size a typical file for an SE would use. Maybe I'll revisit that project sometime.

There are a few people about who would be interested if you ever decide to let it go - I'd count myself (had the same SE for 25 or so years :) ), but can't afford anything that fancy at the moment, so will muddle on with my already awesome accelerated SE!

The choice between ethernet and processor is tricky. I tend to leave the processor in and use an external SCSI Hard Disk to move things at the moment. But I always had the ethernet card in there before I got an accelerator.
